Favorite Laker Regular Season Game of all time?

I don't get how the 81 pt game isnt the hands down winner. Everything else has been done before. The clutch shots only really add to his legacy as a collection. Dont get me wrong, that Portland game was awesome but, to be able to witness history, live, was amazing-er

What happens if we lose that game? An L in the loss column. Nothing more. Some of the others mentioned were for division titles, seeding, and secured home court advantage that turned out to be greatly needed.

Well, then that axes the Portland game because we didn't need it. We lost that year in the finals right?

I understand your point, but the 81 pt game is a feat you will likely never see again in your lifetime. It's a once in a lifetime type of performance. Lots of players have hit shots to secure division titles (which I thought we all considered to be meaningless since we play for titles).

That game featured what is arguably the single best individual basketball performance by any human being EVER.

Someone mentioned the Dallas comeback game and I was going to add that. I was at an office party that night, still remember it, and spent most of the evening in the bar watching this game.

Enjoy fellas.

Argh. "Embedding disabled by request." Stupid. Here's the link if you wanna watch that 4th quarter. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_PgR66ehq0

You young bucks don't go back far enough. Or can't. Same same. Also posters keep mentioning *playoff* games, that's not the point of this thread.

OK I'll give you a few. In '82 I think, Lakers down by 27 early in the 3rd on the road to Philly and coming back. Remember those were the Philly teams that played the Lakers in the Finals 3 times in 4 years.

in 1972, they beat GS 162-99. Largest victory margin ever for the Lakers. One of those nothing could go wrong games. In 1987, they scored 47 in the first, had 89 at the half on the way to beating PHX 155-118.

But my all time favorite has to be Nick Van Exel hitting a 47 foot shot with no time left to win the very last game the Lakers played at the old Boston Garden.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I was too young when my brother was watching Magic and showtime, I didn't really start understanding bball till the Van Exel, Jones, Ceballos Lakers. I was so pumped watching Nick the Quick say bye to the Garden on a buzzer beaters.

65 vs. Portland and it's not even close. We needed every one of those points to win that game. The shots Kobe hit were AMAZING and incredibly clutch. The 81 point game was great and all, but we had the game in hand well before he got 81.

EDIT: In 04 Kobe's ridiculous 3's to give us the win and the division in the last game of the season was also incredible.

Back in the mid-80s, after one quarter: Lakers 40. Kings 4.

Michael Cooper said it felt as good as being with his wife.

2000 Feb game against the Blazers, as others have mentioned.

Both super teams on hot streaks, unprecedented match up. Lakers win, get confidence in their team, go on to pull away in the regular season, sets up an epic showdown in the WCF.

I think that game gave the newish Lakers squad the confidence and belief in themselves. I think it carried over and helped start the Shaq-Kobe dynasty. Rest is history. PEople tend to forget how fragile it all was until they vanquished the Blazers that year.

Off the top of my head, last night's game, blazers 2OT game, blazers Kobe game tier and game winner in OT, kobe 62 points in 3 quarters.

The 81 game was just Kobe ball hogging. He did not pass the ball. He didn't get his teammates involved. How can it be the best game?!?!? :man12:

Game 2 in 04 Finals when Kobe hit the winning shot for our only win that series.

Fish's 0.4 against SA in 04.

Kobe's crazy game against PHO in the 06 playoffs that put us up 3-1.

I'm glad someone added Fisher's 0.4 game as well. I can't come up with a total list right now, but most have been highlighted already from other members.
