Favorite moment of 2002-2003 laker season

Postby LakerLady on Mon May 19, 2003 9:55 pm

Before you say it Sac fans, yeah, I'm a chick, and I'm glad the Laker players cared deeply enough about winning to cry. That level of commitment is one of the many differences between a champion and the pretenders and why you'll likely see the Lakers start another championship streak next year. Maybe if Sac took more pride in their game instead of blaming everyone else and hoping for injuries on other teams, they wouldn't be taking the summer off every year.

my favorites:

-lakers comeback from 30 points to beat dallas
-kobe's 12 3-pointers, including 9 in a row
-double ot win over rockets without shaq
-kobe's 42 points in the first half
-kobe's game winner vs. griz *(replay-- missed the game dammit!)
-kobe completely posterizing vincent yarborough with a wrap-around 360 dunk
-horry hitting the game winner vs. indiana at the buzzer (same exact play, a center tips it out to him and he scores)
-kobe's windmill dunk vs. the t-wolves in the playoffs
-kobe swatting jordan in the all star game
-devean george going for 21 points in blowout over the mavs
-starting out 9-20 (or sumn like that) and then getting 5th seed in da west
-kobe's 9-game streak of 40 points or more

yes, it may have been a whole load of kobe highlights, but it was a very memorable season if you think about it.

we'll be back and better than ever. 03-04 here we come.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

BEST VIDEO EVER ... AND AND THE SECOND BEST.

Kobe's 40 point barrage is top of my list.

Jack's fight with the refs last series is second.

Favorite Lakers moment of 2002-3003...

Postby oochamps on Sun May 25, 2003 10:19 pm

 Kobe was just awesome all year. His string of fourty point games was inspiring, his record setting 12 threes in a game was shocking, and the progression of his overall brilliance was topped only by his mental tenacity and endurance. Kobe Bryant Carried this team this year, with a huge target on his back, and beyond what enyone could have expected, he came through for us all. As a fan, I want to be like kobe as far as basketball goes. And the man's got a lot of class too. My hats off to you Kobe. Thanks for the memories.

P.S. I know shaq had to work hard to come back and everything, and that he was clearly overwieght and injured to some extent, but I just really hope that he can regain the passion for the game that he once did have. I'm looking forward to next season with a lot of optimism, but if Shaquille doesn't improve over this past season he will definitely be continuing to underachieve, and I don't think Dr. Buss should sign him to the extension that he has coming up, unless he agrees to a very reduced offer from management. But make no mistake about it, I'm pulling for the big fella in a big, big way.

Definitely the comback against the Mavs, when they were the team to beat due to the hype, and we were supposedly six feet under!

Thanks Reddy, on both counts! My gf made the sig, I'm a finance geek so I'll confess to not knowing much about that kind of stuff. I'll relay the message to her, I know I like it. :)

My Favorite Moment

Postby GoldenRingsFerris on Sat May 31, 2003 10:37 pm

Was when the Lakers lost game 6 to the Spurs and Bryant, Fisher and the others had tears in their eyes and Pain in their heart from losing, it showed me as confident as they were, they never stopped caring and believing in what their main goal was, to win a championship, So my favorite moment was not that they lost but what they looked like after they did, they looked like someone will eventually pay for this.

Go Lakers in 04'
The game's in the Refrigerator the door's closed, the light's out, the eggs are cooling, the butter's getting hard, and the jello's jiggling
The game is out of reach.

GoldenRingsFerris, I can agree with what you have said. It wasn't nessicarily my favirote moment, but it was one that will foreshadow the rest of this dynasty. If you think this Laker era is now over, you are wrong my friends, for the dynasty still stands very strong...

Yes, the looks on their faces couldn't believe what was happening, however there was also a light of vengance, sayin over and over again THE DYNASTY IS NOT OVER. WE WILL BE BACK. Kobe and D-Fish are gonna make them pay 4 those tears. They really never stopped fighting and all us fans never stopped believing, but after Phil took that timeout at 5 minutes, and right after pargo shot an airball 3, the tension became nervous....I also agree with LD2K it wasn't mah favorite moment, but it will remain in mah and I am sure a lot of fans' memories.

Every thing happens for a reason

Postby GoldenRingsFerris on Wed Jun 04, 2003 12:21 am

Nothing ever seemed right this past season, Phil seemed to be lackadaisical at times, later to known due to his health, Shaq didnt get it going because of his toe, then got into shap slower than usaul, Rick Fox got into the "fight". Chick Hearns passing.(god Bless him). Lack of interest in ballgames, losing to cleveland for an example. Our defense was never on the same page with the exception of a handful of times, way too many turnovers. Walker, george getting hurt right as Shaq and fox got back into it, so they didnt have a full bench for half the season,Phils Heart condition,Phils Stones( ehehe) Shaqs Knee,Kobe's inujries but as a tough warrior played through it. and big shotRob shooting so horrible iin the playoffs.

Please dont mistake this for whining, I am simply saying it jsut wasnt right, and I knew the Lakers were not going to win the game 6 against SA after Robs magic ran out on the 3 pointer.

Every cloud has a silver lining, I dont know what te future holds, but maybe this helps Shaqs Health long term by him realizing he needs to lose weight, Maybe it helps Phils health to take better care of himself and excercise more, he said he was going to rededicate himself to feel better.
And maybe that the hurt put more love of the game into the hearts that are wearing purple and gold, and also to the fans to realize what we have and respect it, So please fans put down the cell phones for 48 minutes of the game and where your purple and gold proud..Im out
