Also, why do the Lakers need a superstar? Why does it always come back to that? You don't need a superstar along Drew to compete, you need a solid team. A solid team can be constituted without a superstar to play along your other star.
To me, the problem isn't Lee's contract, it's Biedrins'. If you just took back Lee, Curry and Wright, it wouldn't be that bad.
Lee for Pau saves the Lakers like 7M. You get rid of Walton and hopefully some of your other bad contracts go away (fisher retires) and maybe you trade MWP for nothing (a 2nd round pick or something). You save 20M. Of course, Curry's contract takes a lot of that, he now makes 3M, but when you extend him, you'll have to give him like 12M (it should be more, but he has been injury prone. Also, you explain to him that if he wants to play for a great team, in a great city, in a winning enviroment he has to be willing to make sacrifices, which I think he would -curry seems like a down to earth, wanting to win guy-. IMO. That leaves you with around 8M. You extend Bynum, hopefully he accepts the same deal that he has now -15M (again, someone has to make sacrifices, and that extra money you could get elsewhere can be compensated for -advertising- in a city like LA). You still have 8M, which is what you pay Wright.
I'm not sure if that works, I'm in a hurry and about to leave for dinner.

Image

All these years we've been doing it wrong, all we had to do was ask our players very nicely to take a pay cut. WHY DIDN'T MITCH THINK OF THIS?

Image

AAAAH, I tried, but I can't ignore this level of ignorance. It's all about money you say? Wade, LeBron & Bosh? The pay cuts they took saved the Heat 15M and made them a championship favorite.
The league is full of guys who have been willing to take pay cuts in order to stay with the teams / cities they love or to help their team add more assets and be better.
I'm sure that would never happen with Curry though, 'cause everyone knows how he's all about money and doesn't care that much about winning..

LOL. Why in the hell would GS do that deal? And why would the Buss' in their effort cut payroll at all costs take on such huge amounts of salary?

Injuries are an issue. Curry is injury prone. Bynum is injury prone. Imagine if Curry and Bynum go down. The Lakers would be looking at the lottery. I think you can afford the risk of having one cornerstone player who is injury prone. Two makes things very risky.

Imagine if we kept Pau and he got injured or Kobe got injured..... or Bynum got injured.....

Seems like a lot of worrying..... players get injured there is no way to predict it..... none.... or those players wouldn't ever get a contract.....

If we are trading for one of their guards it should be Monta. He's a underrated playmaker and a legitimate scorer. Let Golden State fill in around him with a piece or two and I'm fine. If it has to be Lee then we better get a first round pick in the mix to compensate for his hellish contract.

Have no connections and this is my first time speculating, but I'm in Houston, and heard on one of the Sports flashes between the afternoon drive show and they said Kyle Lowry is missing tonight's game against the Nets because he is in the hospital with "Stomach stress ailment." That is exactly what they said. Take it FWIW

the only downside to that deal is health.

if they are healthy tho, we are a very complete team.

Bynum/Biedrins
Lee/McRoberts/Murphy
Wright/Barnes/Ebanks
Kobe/GL0CK/Kapono
Curry/Blake/Fish

given that we Mitch has stated how valuable getting under the tax threshold is, I doubt they'd make this trade. Once curry gets his extension, we'd be in tax hell.

Golden State Warriors:
1. Sign David Lee to that horrendous, horrendous contract
2. Use amnesty on a $4million expiring contract to throw money at DeAndre Jordan
3. Fail to sign DeAndre Jordan

If a trade happens with them, I expect Mitch to pull off another miracle

I like this one. I prefer Ellis to Curry. Somebody who can really draw defenders away from Kobe.

I also agree about GS sending a 1st round pick this way if they want the Lakers to eat a bad contract or two. Preferably unprotected. Lakers could then package the 3 1st round picks they would have to get a better pick in this summer's draft, maybe move into the top 10?

agree. the warriors hit on curry in the draft. his ankles are a concern, but not enough to deter me from taking a flier. my guess is there's no way they trade curry, and this is all bs speculation.

as for houston: no thanks to whatever they're offering, pretty much. they overrate their assets. lowry is not as good as people say right now (he's a good case for the lin discussion in the nba forum about players who went from under- to overrated overnight), scola's an albatross, and their "young talent" is all marginal at best.

gasol helped pull this franchise from the abyss. the return in a trade for him better be huge. if not, you roll with him. i love his game, and i like his attitude. he brought two titles here as a key player. only a blue chip prospect could make me part with pau at this point, and even then, i have mixed emotions.

I believe you can only amnesty players that were under contract at the time the lockout ended. Not future players you obtained later.

That team is simply unbeatable in a 7 game series for any team as currently constructed.

We've always spent if it looked like it would guarantee rings. I think we would make some type of cost cutting moves like Blake for Felton's expiring. I don't think you can rule out us paying heavy tax as long as it translates to the trophy case & boosts revenue. Cost cutting isn't new Mitch has always done it, but he also swings for the fences when it's there. I won't pass judgement or assume I know what they are willing to do 1 way or the other until we see what actually happens.
