To me, the problem isn't Lee's contract, it's Biedrins'. If you just took back Lee, Curry and Wright, it wouldn't be that bad.
Lee for Pau saves the Lakers like 7M. You get rid of Walton and hopefully some of your other bad contracts go away (fisher retires) and maybe you trade MWP for nothing (a 2nd round pick or something). You save 20M. Of course, Curry's contract takes a lot of that, he now makes 3M, but when you extend him, you'll have to give him like 12M (it should be more, but he has been injury prone. Also, you explain to him that if he wants to play for a great team, in a great city, in a winning enviroment he has to be willing to make sacrifices, which I think he would -curry seems like a down to earth, wanting to win guy-. IMO. That leaves you with around 8M. You extend Bynum, hopefully he accepts the same deal that he has now -15M (again, someone has to make sacrifices, and that extra money you could get elsewhere can be compensated for -advertising- in a city like LA). You still have 8M, which is what you pay Wright.
I'm not sure if that works, I'm in a hurry and about to leave for dinner.

All these years we've been doing it wrong, all we had to do was ask our players very nicely to take a pay cut. WHY DIDN'T MITCH THINK OF THIS?

Injuries are an issue. Curry is injury prone. Bynum is injury prone. Imagine if Curry and Bynum go down. The Lakers would be looking at the lottery.

the only downside to that deal is health.

if they are healthy tho, we are a very complete team.

given that we Mitch has stated how valuable getting under the tax threshold is, I doubt they'd make this trade. Once curry gets his extension, we'd be in tax hell.
