Nice bump DarthRekal. And yeah, +1 on Sloan for sure. I think he would be a phenomenal fit for this team and would help us win it all.

^^^^ if it was mid-season that'd be one thing

Brown won't get fired...

Generally, when a coach gets fired it id from a lotto team that has lost all hope and maybe a new coach can either bring some life to the team or can be an audition for a potential new gig. Either way, it's addition by subtraction.

lakers are 0-2, nor 26-40. To fire him now would send a strong message of instability and distrust that may affect the players. Besides, when hiring big time coaches like Phil or Sloan, they like to have their own staff and I doubt we are going to fire the entire staff.

0-10 (blowouts) this season overall with the useless princeton offense isn't enough?

Sloan ran a motion offense in Utah. It wasn't the Princeton, but it was still a system offense. So if you hate the Princeton, I don't see anything changing with Sloan coming here.

What I expect from Sloan is a better sense of how to evaluate the personnel and a better sense of how hard to work the guys in practice. I also think Sloan will allow his assistants more freedom to coach how they want to.

Count me in on this bandwagon
Michael Jordan : "My Chicago team are the all-time greatest"
Magic Johnson : "Put me with Kareem, James Worthy, Cooper and Byron Scott, and we'd dominate your Bulls team"

I don't see Brown getting his squad to put maximum effort out for him. I really don't think the players believe Brown can lead them to a championship and they feel like they are on their own. I think their confidence in him is shaky -- and has been since he arrived here.

I seriously cannot get excited about basketball until this clown is gone. It's actually embarrassing the Lakers allowed this guy to be their head coach.

Potential coaches Mitch should be calling:
B. Shaw
Phil Jackson
Mike D'Antonio
Larry Brown
Nate McMillan
Jerry Sloan

I would also call the lawyers, to determine if we can hire away Brian Scott or Coach K.

While the Lakers owe Brown $14 mil, lets not forget that Mitch pulled the trigger on Rudy T when his team had quit on him and lost a home game to some team's JV. In my opinion, opening night's dismal performance was worse.

How much does it cost to get PJ out of retirement? $20M? $30M? Every man has a price.

I'm down with hiring any decent coach out there who can handle the pressure of LA and most importantly can command the respect of this team. Mike Brown cannot do either.

My list:

1:Phil (dream scenario)
2: Larry Brown (Players always play hard, he never sticks around for more than 2 years anyway - our window)
3: Sloan (Nash to Dwight anyone?)
4:B-Shaw - Would be nice, but as a new coach, would probably need a training camp to be effective.

If we do get rid of Mike Brown, they need to promote one of those assistants, (Eddie Jordan Bernie Bickerstaff) to replace Brown. Preferably Jordan; we don't have to scrap our offense that we're trying to implement and his starting to show some signs of life.

My big thing with any coach is the ability to manage ego's and manage minutes if you have a veteran roster. Kobe playing 38 minutes on bum foot doesn't suit me well. Especially when you signed a shooting guard to relieve Kobe; it's completely moronic.

Rudy T was fired after 41 games, but the season already was lost.
We should not make this mistake again.
Fire him now.

Did you guys see Mike Brown's late 3rd quarter lineup? I think Jerry can do better than that!

Adleman should have been the choice...

This off season we should have fired him for McMillan...

At this juncture, he's not going anywhere

Thanks for writing this. I always said he was fired but didnt want to get blasted for being negative and unbusiness like. Lakers have fired 3 coaches mid-season. 1982, 1999, and 2005. So, the myth of "We do not fire coaches during the season" is totally debunked.

I don't think he was actually fired, he resigned if I remember right, health issues, stress. I believe we were on pace to make the playoffs when he resigned too, it just fell apart for many reasons after that. We weren't gong to win anything of note that season, but I don't think it was Rudy T, it was the roster, ancient Brian Grant, ancient and injured Vlade Divac, bad PG's.

Yep. We were 6,7, or 8th seed when Rudy stepped down. Basically the same as Phil when he took over. His Rudy Three style wasn't easy to watch, but it's not like he had the personnel to run a half-court offense anyway, especially with Vlade out.
