Looking at this from another perspective, we still have Gasol one the best skilled big men in the league, we have Nash albeit old when somewhat healthy is still a deadly pick and roll artist and shooter who knows how to take care of himself, and we'll have Kobe coming back sometime in November/December more determined than ever. Granted all three are coming off injury but with a whole summer to heal, who's to say this team won't make some noise? Yes we just lost Howard while a defensive monster, he's not a difference maker on the offensive end. Also we still have Hill-yes also coming off injury-plug him into the starting lineup and you still have rebounding, hustle and a measure of defense. I'm not saying this team is a championship team, not by any stretch, but if we recall last year we had quite possibly the worst injury riddle season in history and still squeaked into the 7th spot in the playoffs. Of course then the injuries came to a head and that's all she wrote.
With a training camp, a chance for guys to familiarize themselves with each other, and some injury free good fortune, I still have confidence this team can still compete at an elite level. Maybe I'm looking at this whole thing with a glass half full mentality maybe a little too much, but with the personnel we still have, I just don't see how this team is going to be as bad as what everyone is making them out to be. Then 2014 will hit and who knows.... My two cents anyway.

OK, reality check here. First. Last year we had Earl Clark, Chris Duhon and Antawn Jamison play crucial roles in lifting the team at different times last year. These guys are all gone. Second, we had Bynum with Gasol and Kobe before Dwight, now that will be Ryan Kelly or Robert Sacre. Third, Kobe, Gasol AND Nash are all coming off of injuries that are more about long term wear and tear (old bodies breaking down ala Tracy McGrady, Manu Ginobili, than they were about fluke plays. Lastly, the two examples you gave were also with benches that are HUGELY more talented than what we will have this season. Honestly, we are looking at d-league level players for our back up SG, SF, PF, C...not to mention our “reserves”, who will probably be Darius Morris, Earl Watson and Ryan Kelly. We won't win 35 games next year.

I highly doubt the front office is going to dip into the d-league to fill out the bench. There's still some free agents to be had. Maybe not quality ones given our financial state, but guys with some experience. And let me reiterate, I'm saying this team is going to win any championships. Yes guys are older, but the only player that fits the mold you're talking about is Nash is 40 going on 50. Gasol will be 33, older but not ancient, Kobe is going to be Kobe. This isn't like '06-'07 when all we literally had has Kobe before he got injured and Caron. If this team is looking like that then yes I would agree with you thinking we win maybe a handful. But we still have 2 if not 3 HOF who can still compete at a high level and will. I still have confidence in this team.

We'll have a decent season if Nash and Pau are healthy. Hopefully Kobe can come back by the all-star break.
I predict about 45 wins, at least above .500.

We need to trade Pau at the deadline for a lottery pick, and start rebuilding.

I just have very little faith, if any faith in Jim Buss. Lets just say, it hasn't been a good start for him.

The only thing that has me upset is having to think of our future with Jim Buss, he just doesn't seem like a star players owner like his father. No doubt dwight goes nowhere with Dr. Buss running things, the only bright spot is Mitch but one day he'll be gone too. But no matter if these are some low times for us, still and always purple and gold.

Does anyone know the University Jim Buss went? I just do not understand how a franchise can be destroyed in one year.

Jim Buss did not contributed to this organization to be so stubborn to destroy in one year his father built throughout his life. Does this guy have any moral obligation to preserve his dad hard work and efforts?
If he cares about his father legacy he should leave from his post and let others run the show and let him collect the money his father gave him for free.

Mitch should submit his resignation to protect the legacy of Dr. Buss and all the great Lakers players in the past. Mitch is useless right now, he is destroying his reputation and he can find similar job in another team right way.

I think Jimmy could really care less at this point in time. He has wanted to do it "his way" and Jerry supported him for that. I just don't know how long before he finally realizes "his way" is going to run the franchise into the ground like Charlotte, etc.

If there is any condition attached to the TWC contract the $5B, then they should demand for Jimm to leave his post right away or cancel the contract. This is the only way the Dr. Buss families will vote for Jimm ouster from his current post and he should not have anything to say how the franchise should be run except he garnishes his share of money.

That might have to be what it takes to remove him from management.

If Kobe was to come back by the all-star break (he's supposed to be back way earlier btw), how in the world do we get to 45 wins?

I think, even moreso than last year, that defense will be our bane. Unless we make MAJOR changes I can totally see us in the bottom 5, maybe 3 teams in the league defensively.

Just one argument: you'd be signing a very different tune if Stern hadn't vetoed the Paul trade...

I'm just saying, of course the FO's made mistakes, but gotta keep things in perspective, gotta remember the things they did well (bounced back from that veto with Nash and Howard, which we all loved at first) and the tough spot they were in.

Also I love how Mitch and Jerry ALWAYS get the praise after a good move, and Jim ALWAYS get the blame after a bad move. "We traded for Howard? Damn Mitch, you're the man!" "Howard walked?? Damn Jim, you suck, you're destroying this franchise!!"
Where does that even come from? How do you know who's behind what action?

If Jimmy had anything to do with running this clown out of town the he's getting a second chance from me..... Dwight isn't cut out to be a Laker.

The Rockets aren't winning a ring, not this year, not after. They haven't passed OKC, the Clippers, Memphis, maybe not even the Spurs or Warriors. Durant isn't going anywhere, Chris Paul isn't going anywhere, and LeBron isn't going anywhere, the Rockets are not even IMO in the top 5 title contenders. I'd put Miami, Brooklyn, OKC, Clippers, Spurs ahead of them.

I endured a line up of:

Smush
Kobe
Walton
Cook
Kwame

I can deal with our current roster as long as Pau plays C and Kobe plays SG or moves over to SF.

It's going to be tough sledding for next season. Hell, I can see the Sports section of the L.A. Times mocking, lambasting our team and propping up The Tenants. It's cool... We'll take our lumps but we'll be back with a vengeance. At least I hope so...
