When that shot happened, I was in a Las Vegas sports book watching the game with thousands. Everybody was packed in that casino, I think it was Paris or something. Anyways, I was there from start to finish at the game early so I had a seat with my own monitor. I placed some bets.

This was obviously during the Shaq/Kobe/Phil heyday so yes the entire sports book was packed and any area that was normally a walkway was chock full of standing room lookyloos. When Horry hit that shot it felt like the entire casino erupted in a cheer with high fives everywhere. It was awesome, I never saw such a reaction by so many people. I mean, even people at the Blackjack tables were going crazy even though the shot had nothing to do with the results of their bets.

Happy Birthday Horry! I still vividly remember the time the Lakers traded for him for Ceballos. One of the best when it came to role players.
Nor can the Lakers get blamed for always making the right decisions over decades. At some point its not just luck or "gamble", its superior management and superior ownership.
