Hoopshype: 50 Greatest Lakers

Postby Balance&Options24 on Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:13 am

I know there are endless top greatest Lakers list I kind of agree with this one especially on the top ten, it seems to list players as far as their accomplishments as Lakers rather their whole careers. No one year lakers like Howard, Malone, Payton. Some players like Artest and Horry ccould be a bit higher.

Here's the top 20.

1.Magic Johnson
2. Kobe Bryant
3. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
4. Jerry West
5 Shaquille O'Neal
6. Elgin Bayor
7. George Mikan
8. James Worthy
9. Gail Goodrich
10. Jamal Wilkes
11. Pau Gasol
12. Byron Scott
13. Wilt Chamberlain
14. Michael Cooper
15. Vern Mikklesen
16. Norm Nixon
17. Derek Fisher
18. Lamar Odom
19. A.C. Green
20. Rudy LaRusso
Notables 26. Nick Van Exel 27. Andrew Bynum 29. Eddie Jones 30. Robert Horry 33. Rick Fox 34. Kurt Rambis
36. Ron Artest

pretty solid list.

Horry, Fox, and Rambis should be ahead of NVE, Bynum, Jones though.

If it's just Lakers and accomplishments as Lakers I'd put Baylor at 2 or 3. Other than Chamberlin during his career span there was no better scoring player in the game. He revolutionized the game at his position as well. My father always said he was by far the best player we had until Magic and Kareem.

Odom and Fisher seem pretty high to me.

Much respect to the "names" on the list BUT I'm glad my sentimental favorites since I followed the franchise being Wilkes, Cooper, Fox and Odom are there.

Wilkes has been one of the most underrated Lakers of all time.

I can't see Byron Scott over Wilt.
I can't see L.O. over A.C. Green.
I can't see L.O. over Robert Horry.
And I thought Michael Cooper added more value than Byron Scott.

And who is Vern Mikklesen?

Well... I think it has been established, by Magic himself, that Kobe is the greatest Laker player...

Then again, it's Magic, so ...
Pau Gasol yesterday morning when asked about Dwight Howard: "I haven't called. Calls are expensive."

Bynum is way too high. Not sure what undeniable advantage he brought to us. It was Pau and LOW that was our dominant front court.

When we beat Boston, he didn't have a good series, but he averaged 9/8/2 blocks and shot 57% in the series leading up to there. So if we're talking just about playoffs, there's at least that to be said.

But not all of the guys on the list did anything in the playoffs - much less won a championship because of their key contributions. In the regular seasons, Bynum was an All-Star, 2nd Team All-NBA, widely regarded as the second best Center, and averaged about 15/9/2 blocks for the last five years he was with LA. He was our defensive presence, too. I think it's easy to underrate him because he missed a bunch of games, he played recently, and he had a bunch of untapped potential. But he's one of LA's best.

You would think his name would be mentioned whenever Miken is talked about. I looked him up and it is noted that he still holds the record for most disqualifications at 127. Now that's a Power Forward.

I think he played Center before Mikan and PF with him. I remember seeing a segment on him on NBA TV a couple years ago. He was a force in the league back in the day but played in Mikan's shadow most of the time.

We haven't had anyone like him since I don't think.

I don't know Mikkelsen at all, but his numbers are impressive (not shooting). His fouls, though, are really hardcore. Averaged 4 fouls a game for his career. I hope he made them count.

Always poking at me aren't ya...... :man10:

Gasol is far from the prototypical PF. And 6 straight All Star games he'll never have.... if that means anything anyway.
