I'm just curious I'm new to the board just want to start conversation. But I am wondering how long have you guys been fans of the Lakers? I been a fan since 1984 and I feel privlieged to follow this great team and it;s runs. The Celtic rivalry was legendary some of the greatest games I ever seen. Well looking forward to hearing from you guys. Rashidi

1984 I was in the 4th grade, and was like 10 years old. Back when basketball was played with nothing but heart. Magic and Bird. Always hated Boston! Have been a Die-hard laker fan for 19 yrs. now! Grew up in Montana. You were either a Laker, Bulls, or Celtics fan. But the Purple and Gold won my heart. Showtime was my kind of basketball and still is! Go get #15 Lakers!

1983 and the Philly / Lakers Finals series.

It's been a helluva fun rollercoaster ever since though and this year seems to be shaping up to be no different.

I was born in 1988 and became a Laker fan when Shaq and Kobe came.
Before that I liked Orlando, but I always like the Lakers. I really like watching out Laker cames that my parents have on tape like Magic, Byron, games with Worthy, Kareem. Its all good.

I remember that very well that could have been one hell of an upset! I was really rooting for LA to beat the suns! Remember the game from 11-20-92 when MJ scored 54 pts and the Lakers came back and won in OT. Never a bad time to be an LA fan. It's been fun and will only get better

Nice Topic!!

I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. I know it was during the Magic years since I was just 3 years old when he stormed the L. Been through alot, thick and thin and the last couple of years has just been SWEET!! I can still remember going for the 3peat when Riley patented the phrase. LOL :jam2: :jam2:

I have always been a MJ fan, llike some of the other people here. I have also always been a huge fan of Shaq and Kobe. I folled Kobe since HS, and Shaq since his Orlando days, so when LA got them I was hooked. So I have been a fan since 96.

Growing up, my household always cheered for the Lakers, but I became a true fan in 1979 when Magic (my all-time favorite player) joined the team.

I was born a Laker Fan. I remember my brothers turning down the volume on the TV(channel 2) and turning on the radio, where Chicky baby could be heard. Those were the days of Showtime. :mhihi:

SINCE I MET MAGIC IN 1980!!

Postby shoutout2u on Wed Jul 30, 2003 5:41 pm

since meeting magic right after he led lakers to 4-2 finals win over sixers AFTER jabbar went out with ankle injury! i had just returned to lansing, MI (magic's hometown) & was working at parks & rec center for city. kids came running up to me excited that magic's softball team was playing on our field. MAGIC JOHNSON ENTERPRISES & he played every game. even tho he wasnt making a penny, he played with the same 110% he played with lakers..head-first slides, diving for flyballs, etc. that is until jerry buss found out he was risking injury & invoked the portion of magic's contract that he couldnt risk his body playing for anyone besides lakers. so magic hung up the cleats to avoid risk of injury. i had followed him at michigan state & after he jumped to nba at end of soph season, he became 1st player ever to win back-to-back ncaa & nba titles!! now kobe has surpassed him as my favorite laker, but it's nice to have the luxury of so many awesome laker players to choose from!!
kobe is still tha man!

The year was '85-'86. Byron, Coop, Big Game James, Kareem, and of course... Magic. It all started there. Living in Texas I couldnt ever get on board with the Rockets or Spurs. The Lakers to me embodied the dominace of the sport. Then, in the WCF Sampson hits the prayer shot of his life for the Rockets and sends us home packing. To this day I still see Coop laying on the Forum floor with the look of "what the hell just happened?" :bang:

And I've been a die-hard live or die Laker man ever since, which is a freaking hard thing to be in this state!
I absolutely HATED the Celtics and thought it was the coolest thing that Jack Nicholson was Lakerfan Supreme! :jam2:

Postby IrieLight on Wed Jul 30, 2003 6:22 pm

I've been a Lakers fan as far back as I can remember - sometime during the 80s. As the years went on my memory gets clearer. But still Showtime basketball was the best bball I've ever seen. Much more fun to watch than anything since.
