How many people are expecting a new roster next year?

Postby Slurpee22 on Mon Mar 17, 2014 11:31 am

I know, this has been a very disappointing season, and injuries are no excuse for the lack of effort displayed almost every game.... I have no idea what our roster will look like on opening night... and I'm guessing almost everything we hear is a baseless rumor garbage....

Who's really expecting a total new band next year? and who do you think could be coming?

I'm expecting one decent free agent signing. I doubt Carmelo comes. I hope one of Monroe or Bledsoe or Stephenson comes.

Other than that I'm looking forward to our rookie and I'm looking forward to seeing a new coach. A few guys will be back next year and a few new one-year rental faces will be here too.

The only thing I would keep from this years team is the bench.

Farmar, Bazemore, Young would makeup a good, young, and athletic bench.

A new (and PERMANENT) starting lineup for sure.

I could see guys like Johnson/Marshall/Henry being traded for picks during draft night.... also if the Lakers fire MDA... who do you expect to lead this team?

We have what?.... 3 guys under contract? Yeah I expect a new roster.

I could see us making a move with our pick for a star and now that Phil is in NY we may have a taker for a re-signed Pau. He's about the only guy who will trade for him.

What the heck does NY have that would interest the Lakers to resign Pau and him ship to NY? Amare? Chandler? to injury prone.

I doubt Johnson would warrant any real picks. Henry and Marshall might warrant a late 1st if the Lakers wanted to go that route.

I don't know who would lead the team. There's plenty of decent coaches out there, if somewhat uninspiring. George Karl, Lionel Hollins, etc.

All of those guys except Marshall if we pick up his option are free agents.. Noone would even give up a 2nd for them let alone a late 1st. They can just sign them when FA begins.

so whats the count?
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Exum/Nash/Marshall
Kobe/Henry
Young/Johnson
Pau/Kelly
Ofafor/?

I am just shocked that so many of you have Pau still on the team and even some with Hill still on the team as well. Those two guys especially Hill are good as gone. Unless they both sign for the vets min but that won't happen.

For this years team I hope we keep Farmar, Young, Henry, Bazemore. As for Free agents I hope we get Deng and or Stevenson. Monroe is a pipe dream IMO because he's going to get the max from somewhere and even if he doesn't DET will then surely match the offer as he is a RFA.

I might get killed for saying this because as we've all seen this year we need defense and rebounding in the worse way but I wouldn't mind and even think we should go after Spencer Hawes this off-season whose is a UFA. He can shoot the ball sure, but outside of Pau, Noah, and Marc there isn't a much better passer outside or around the post then him. He also has shown some great touch around the rim. I've watched him play a couple of times last year and more so this year especially once he was traded to the Cavs. The guy is a very heady player. Just my two cents...

Deng wants $$$ and i din't like him, so NO :man9: Other than that, im ok as long as we get rid of Pau (unless he plays for peanuts) and MDA. Farmar, Young and Henry are a must keepers :man2:

Picks...... Youth.

Phil loves veterans and Pau in particular.

The reason I have Pau on the team is I don't think the front office is enamored with any of the FAs this offseason (other than Lebron of cousre). That means Kobe + Nash + Sacre + Young (if he opts in) + Rookie = 39 million. That leaves us with about 24 million in cap space. I could see Pau signing for 10-12 million here for one season. Pau DOES like it here and the Lakers are comfortable with him. And without D'Antoni at the helm, they probably think Pau could have a solid season. We have no pick next season so tanking is futile. We aren't going to sign any free agents past one season, so why not keep Pau around for another year?

Sign and trade a young project in the first round like Jerami Grant for Henry/Marshall who are cheaper and more NBA ready.

Why not? I might do it if I were a team that's looking for help now compared to a project.

I don't mind re-signing Pau if we're able to either trade our pick for a star player or sign a star player.. Kobe/star/Pau with a great supporting cast even if we're only able to retain half of our role players would be a very good team. Our entire team is made up of role players I would love to have if we were top heavy with star power like we're used to being.. So hopefully we land a star & retain as many of the current cast as possible.

But why when they can just keep their draft pick & sign Henry when he becomes a FA? S&T's don't really make sense for guys that are going to get offered the minimum in free agency. If we pick up Marshall's option he would make sense as a S&T target for another team because they can't just sign him outright.

Stop logicking me! :man10:

I don't know. Say you're the Wizards and you end up with the 18th pick and you get Grant. You're over the cap and you have only the MLE to spend now. Why not trade for Henry/Marshall and slot those two into your guaranteed contract money for the rookie, then you can preserve your MLE for someone else.

If Henry is taking the minimum, then it doesn't matter, but I think he's worth slightly more than that.

Either way, it was just a really loose hypothetical. I didn't expect to have to defend it. :man10:

I expect a similar crap as the current season ... same/others names on 1 year contracts , it doesn't really matter since it will be players nobody else want ...

The only interesting thing about next season is our drafted player will do ... maybe we'll have another coach .

A 10-15 wins bump may happen , still not enough to make the playoffs

The guys I'd personally like to keep are Farmar, Young, Bazemore, Hill, Kaman. Combine those guys with Marshall, Kelly, Sacre and it's a good bench. Size, scoring, energy, defense, heart, size. My guess is Hill is gone and Young may get paid elsewhere. Kaman has is probably going to end up in SA or another contender who needs a big. Wes and Xaiver would be nice to have back as end of the roster guys but I won't stress over keeping them.

So yeah, I'm expecting a new roster.

Doc brings that old school flavor back to this site for sure. :jam2:

Does the scenario make any sense though? :man10: sign and trade away a prospect for two established (at-least) bench players and preserve your MLE for a better player?
