How will you remember Gasol as a Laker?

How will you remember Gasol as a Laker?

Postby Slurpee22 on Wed Jan 01, 2014 11:31 am

If he's traded; how will you remember him as? will you remember the 3 straight finals appearances and 2 championships or the Pau Gasol from the last 3 seasons.... Soft/Lazy/Unmotivated/.

I gotta say I appreciate what he bought to this franchise, but thinking about how he did in the last 3 seasons.... it makes me wonder how the outlook would have looked different if we had Marc Gasol who is still young... anyways I hope whatever decision the Organization makes... it gives us something to cheer about.

Xmas game 2008, when he punked KG and Kendrick Perkins (who was still an elite defender at the time)
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

I'll remember him as a class act who helped us crush the overhyped "big three" of the Celtics and win two championships :jam2:

First..... Kendrick Perkins has never been elite at anything.......

Pau's performance against Howard in the finals was the height of his Lakers career.

The two championship and three finals...not exactly the same, but we got over Shaq and his antics after the three peat and when he was traded. Why? Because of the 3 champions and 4 finals appearances.

I agree, with you... I thought Howard was gonna have a Shaq-like performance in the finals... because I thought Gasol wouldn't be up for the task to guard Howard... and he proved all of us wrong.

I hope TWC has a big tribute for Gasol if he's eventually traded.

This.

I still remember getting a phone call on the way home from school from my uncle saying he heard we traded for Pau on the radio. He hadn't heard the details so I started thinking and assumed Bynum or LO would have to be in the deal. I was still ecstatic. Then I got home and immediately rushed to CL to find out that it was for KWAME freakin' BROWN! I couldn't help but to run around the block screaming like I did after Fisher hit 0.4. Hearing about the trade honestly felt almost as sweet as the championships he eventually won us.

Same here. I'm sure most of us remember where we were when we heard about it. I was working at the time and got a call from my brother. I too assumed LO or Drew were involved but I was still jumping for joy. Once I got home and found out it was Kwame, man that was awesome.

That one trade propelled us right into contention for the next five years and three straight finals. Pau has definitely frustrated us the past couple of years but for me it's alot easier to remember the good then the bad.

The guy who allowed Kobe to firmly cement his legacy and shut up the folks who said he would never win without Shaq.

The last few years have been tough but the first few years were glorious. He could take a dump in the middle of a game and I would forgive him for it just because of the titles.

A true champion, who probably stayed with the Lakers longer then he should have. I feel he needed a change of scenery few seasons ago. Still, he gave us championships and helped Kobe become of the best ever in the process.

Pau was a true game changer when he arrived. without him I don't know if we win those 2 championships back to back. By Pau coming here it also drastically changed the landscape of how other teams Celtics and Heat look to put together team, and even OKC to try and stop our formidable team at the time.

I will always appreciate the time we had him because he was a great teammate and chemistry guy for the locker room. Even though these last 3 years have been really terrible especially when we needed him most (2011 & 2012 Playoffs) he never could become that great player we saw in 2009 and 2010.

When I think of Pau on the Lakers it will be a good thought, but that it just went on a little too long

I'll remember him as fast-forwarding the Lakers return to prominence. As Stephen A said, "The City of Angels should be celebrating...." Helped us win 2 titles and he was a huge part of those championships.

Sadly, I also remember the last 3 seasons where he's been pretty bad, especially in the playoffs. Who can forget Phil Jackson poking him in the chest, trying to get him going, or Andrew Bynum screaming at him as they ran down the court after Gasol let his man burn him yet again.

At the end of the day, I wouldn't change a thing because he was a main cog in 2 more championships.

I'm kinda split on this.. It's almost like we've had 2 completely different Pau's.. The 1 that came back tougher & motivated to prove everyone calling him soft wrong after we lost to the C's in the finals & then took Dwight to school the following year.. Then the complacent old man he's become since then..

Feb 2008- April 2011

Top 10 player who put our team over the top , the main reason why we won these 2 titles .

April 2011- End of his Laker tenure

Lazy , delusional , the main reason why our possible retooling didn't happen and is still delaying our rebuilding

FO is to blame for this though ... Pau should have been gone by March 2012 ... it did a good job on getting rid of LO and Fisher as fast as possible ... but definetely not on Pau , MWP ( amnestied two seasons too late) and added another deadweight in Nash .

The Kobe extension is another bad move ...

i'll remember him as rescuing the lakers from the abyss and helping deliver two titles. what's happened since hasn't been all his fault. players get old and lose certain abilities. it happened to pau rather rapidly, and that coincided with some front office missteps and some decline in kobe's game.

i'm sure when i think of gasol years from now, i'll think of that first season, when he helped them come from basically nowhere to get to the finals. even though they lost, that was a really fun year to be a laker fan, and then they got the next two. on top of this, pau hasn't pulled a shaq and badmouthed the organization or other players on the team. he's reacted with class to being blamed for failures and repeatedly put on the trading block.

so, i guess i'll remember him fondly, or, in other words, being a huge cog in two title runs buys you a lot of fan loyalty from me.

I'll remember him as a weak-minded super-talent.

I had super high hopes for him after his first playoff game with us in 2008, and after that there was much frustration over his inability to play at a high level during playoff adversity.

Weak-minded super talent that delivered #4 and #5 rings for Kobe.

Hate all you want but we became relevant the day we got Gasol. Sure his last few years he underachieved but titles are what matter and he helped us get 2. End of story.

Two rings. Class act. Unfortunately, Gasol aged and his game has slipped noticeably.
