Here's the current depth chart for the 2nd unit, drawing from Brown's comments: Blake, Meeks, Ebanks, Jamison (moving over to the 4).

Don't want to kill the good mood but this depth chart is what it is because of Hill injury

Hopefully he will keep turning heads so he doesn't get immediately benched the moment Hill or Dwight return.

Meeks def was pissed about his minutes in the first preseason game so glad he showed mike brown what he can do. prob thought he was guaranteed the backup 2 spot like we all thought...but with mike brown i guess he has to prive himself. glad he did something to get his attention...hopefully gets the backup 2 mins and let cdr and ebanks fight over backup 3 mins.

BOOM......

Los Angeles Lakers ‏@Lakers
Mike Brown indicates that Kobe wanted to play tonight but the team is holding him out. Jodie Meeks likely to start in his place.

Let's go Meeks. :jam2: :jam2:

Nash should get him plenty of open looks. Big game for him tonight.

Meeks has a surprisingly good first step. If he can finish a little better in traffic, he'll be real solid.

I didn't catch the early part of the game, but the score sheet said he was 1/7. Did he look good on defense?

He's a quick guy, athletic.

He missed open shots, but he's gotta get his rhythm in the offense. Know where his shots are going to be within the offense. He just seemed to take his open shot, probably felt indecisive while running the offense. No biggie.

His style reminds me a lot of a young, healthy Michael Redd. His first step is good, and his release is quick. Defensively, he recovers VERY well, and he could be a bit more aggressive with his hands.

Overall, I liked his activity. A few more games to get his shot, I think we'll be fine.

He looked VERY solid defensively.

He looked like he just wanted it a little too much tonight. He seemed to want to prove himself a little too much tonight offensively, but he looked very, very solid.

Unless Brown messes this up, he'll be a really solid backup SG for Kobe.

The Lakers practiced for 3 hours today so their legs were gone, no wonder he didn't shoot so well but it looked good coming out of his hands

Kobe actually loves Meeks and was looking for him to confirm his stories that he was torching him in practice

I wonder how Meeks is feeling right now... Kind of shunned by the coaches, the leader of the team crapping on him in practice and bragging about it... Man. I hope he understands it's initiation by fire here with Kobe.

Those quotes about Meeks are priceless :man10:

Kobe is a great quote right now, I'm thoroughly enjoying it, this Kobe is fun. :man10:

I doubt Meeks is bothered by it, he's probably getting a laugh out of it too.

MEEKS NAILING DOWN BACKUP SG ROLE:
The coaches have been pleased of late with the play of free agent signing Jodie Meeks in practice this week, enough that the former Sixers starter looks like Kobe's backup at shooting guard.

"Jodie has played well," said Mike Brown. "He hasn’t necessarily shot the ball extremely well yet, but his feel, his understanding for what we’re trying to do, his work ethic, his physicality, the way he’s shown (to) defending, he’s capable of getting rebounds and loose balls – it’s been a good thing."

Meeks made only 1 of 7 shots in the second preseason loss, but grabbed five rebounds and played aggressive defense. The difficulty will be figuring out where to get his shots in the new offense so that a rhythm can be more quickly attainable.

"He’s starting to round into form a little bit," explained Bryant. "It took getting used to in terms of getting here, getting used to the new system and where shots are going to come from and getting a rhythm. But he’s coming along."

hope hes the backup 2. i think once hes in the rhythm of things and our bench rotation is actually set as well as he knows the pg hes playing with im sure he be drilling 3's for us. just gotta stick with him otherwise his confidence will never be there and when we need a guy off the bench he wont be there mentally for us.

mike brown better not screw this guy over. he came here for a reason and deserves a bigger chance than preseason games where the rotation and players playing are different every game as well as inconsistent minutes.
