That one breakaway where he karate kicked Dwight and got the foul called was completely absurd.

But yeah, Harden has been the beneficiary of initiation the contact on the drive now for a couple seasons. It's his go to move.

Not surprising. The NBA has been in the business of "creating" stars since Kobe's bogus rape charge.

We all saw how DAL barely breathed on Wade and sent him to line. I firmly believe this is when it all started. Stern and CO. wants to create new stars and sweep Kobe under the rug for almost a decade now.

What type of player would Wade and Lebron be if they didn't get at least 4-6 pts per night at the line on bogus calls? 28 ppg turns to 24 or 22. Hardly superstar numbers. Of course Lebron is so good that he doesn't need that treatment, but he does. Wade, Paul and others need that extra nudge.

On the other hand, Kobe's FG% would be consistently around 47% and 28 PPG easily if he got the superstar treatment that those other guys get.

Look I'm just as pissed at the D-Whistle from the 2005 finals as anyone. That being said, to suggest Wade & Lebron wouldn't be superstars without those extra FT's is absurd.

Kobe has been the beneficiary of many calls in his time. I agree though, as of late not only is he not getting superstar calls, but the refs are drawing less fouls for Kobe overall. We really ought to send the league some tape of him getting defiled.

But come on, LBJ & Wade would be superstars without 4 points. Would Wade have won the 2005 NBA title?

Well if they didn't allow LeBron to initiate contact and get the call, especially earlier in his career when he was basically a level 5 starter pokemon, there's no saying what would have happened. He could have remained unchanged, he could have actually worked on his game much earlier, or he could have gotten a career ending injury from trying to get a call too agressively. Back on topic, just the general officiating in the NBA is really fishy, with the fouls they call on one end for Harden, LeBron, etc, and what they allow on Kobe.

^^ I tend to agree. Kobe is taking a lot of FTs though, which just shows (taking what you noted into account) how agressive he's been in trying to get to the line this year. He's shooting almost as many as Durant.

disagree on lebron, but i agree wade would never have made superstar status without being officiated by an entirely different set of rules than almost everyone else.

the conspiracy theorist in me also agrees with borri as to why kobe seems to have to work harder for his whistles than players who are more generally likable. harden becoming a superstar is good for business for several reasons. you don't see monta ellis getting those whistles with that frequency. my advice: grow an iconic beard, sir!
