Los Angeles Lakers forward Jordan Hill has been charged in the choking of a family member while he was still a member of the Rockets, the Houston district attorney's office said in a statement.

Hill will have to make an appearance in Houston to face the charge -- third-degree felony for assault on a family member by choking. The incident took place Feb. 29.

The district attorney's office said that Hill faces a sentence of two to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. After paperwork is complete, a warrant for his arrest will be issued.

Hill is currently in Los Angeles, sources tell ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher. The Lakers have an off day in their first-round playoff series against the Nuggets before hosting Denver Tuesday.

Hill was part of the trade that sent Derek Fisher to Houston March 15. The Rockets had a game the date of the incident but Hill did not dress for that game.

As word of the charge, which was first reported by KTRK in Houston, began to spread, two messages were posted on Hill's Twitter account: "Wowwwww," and "Unbelievable!!!!!!!!"

Hill is in his third year in the league out of Arizona. He's got career averages of 5.3 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

Seeing that Jordan Hill is a free agent playing the best ball of his career, the family member should have waited until he got paid.

And this is what it is all about. Money.

Family member must be a Mavs or Spurs fan.

Trial won't be for a while. We just need him until we get to the finals against Miami. LeBron will choke regardless of Hill being there.

He starts getting playing time and starts producing and all of a sudden there are some charges. Being a Laker is a gift and a curse. Now instead of prepping for a game he has to worry about turning himself in and getting bail.

Life of the Lakers baby :man5:
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

sounds fishy no doubt.

Family member? Probably a rouh-housing incident like all family members have, or some sort of money extortion attempt. Otherwise, why wait 2 months to file charges? That's weird. If it was serious, he'd be charged right away and not allowed to fly around the country playing basketball since Feb. Probably end up as a misdemeaner plea to family dispute

Kobe as the leader of trhis team needs to help Hill utilize and harness the feelings off the court into production on the court, just like he did.

This is all a money thing. He'll get no jail time, and charges will prob get dropped as long as a settlement is reached.

It's always strange to me how Lakers' players always seem to be charged with something during the postseason. Kwame, Shannon, Caracter, Hill, etc. It's almost as if it's done on purpose.

Former Rockets forward Jordan Hill is accused of choking his girlfriend of two years during an argument at his Houston area residence.

According to court documents, his girlfriend told police that Hill, who now plays for the Los Angeles Lakers, assaulted her and choked her, causing bruising to her body and restricted her breathing on February 29, when he still played for the Rockets. He was traded to LA on March 15.

Hill's girlfriend says she flew into Houston from Florida to see him and they got into an argument while discussing their future. During the argument, she says she threw his cell phones to the floor. She told police that Hill then punched her in the legs, grabbed her, pulled her off the couch and dragged her to where the phones were, and threw her against the wall.

Court documents state Hill demanded that she pick up his phones, and when she turned away from him, Hill grabbed her from behind and put her in a chokehold in which she couldn't breathe.

His girlfriend told police that she told Hill she wanted to go home and he booked her a flight back to Florida. Police say her friend picked her up from the airport and stated she was not herself and that she saw bruises on her legs and upper body.

According to police, they obtained photos of the injuries from Hill's girlfriend that were consistent with her and her friend's statements.

Hill, 24, is charged with assault of a family member. No bond has been set yet in this case.

FWIW, "punched in the legs" sounds sketchy as F. That sounds like some self-inflicted or friendly fire s***.

LOL there is no "settling" a criminal charge - he's either found innocent or guilty - this is not (yet) a civil suit.

Convenient timing. I'm willing to bet a lot of money that these wounds, "caused by Hill" would never have come to light, if he was the 12th man on the bench.

This is why you seriously need to just walk away whenever you get in an argument with a female. There's about a 5% chance that you'll ever "win".

I don't know. Never been in that situation.

Neither of us know what happened that night.
