Quite a dance playing out on Jordan Hill front. Lakers want pick for Hill. But I'm told Nets want pick from Lakers for saving them $7+ mil

Hill to ATL for DPE + their 2nd round pick. Do it Mitch and we're done!

Peter Vecsey @PeterVecsey1
This just in: Nets have passed on Jordan Hill. Looking elsewhere for possible frontcourt help

But remember, it is Vecsey who is saying this...so take it with a grain of salt.

Howard Beck @HowardBeck
Nets' attempt to snare Jordan Hill "hasn't left the starting blocks," source says.

Maybe there is something to it after all....if true then Hawks are probably the only ones at the table now.

Ken Berger @KBergCBS
The Lakers' hopes of moving Jordan Hill and further trimming their tax bill are faint at this point, league source says.

Hill was as good as gone yesterday and now this.....what a fail if he doesn't get moved. Hey, but at least we'll have his Bird Rights. :freak2:

Why don't we just send out Kaman for just the DPE if we really wanted to hang on to Hill's Bird Rights?

I think one potential hurdle to dumping Blake AND Hill without getting back an asset like at least a second rounder, while we can explain it as getting under the luxury tax, that will fly over the head of most people and it will just look like we're blatantly tanking.

^^^Actually HJ, if Hill gets dumped into a DPE and we get nothing in return, we would still be in the tax even with the Blake move.

We would have to waive Brooks too to get under the apron, but it would be tight (we would be less than 100K under). If we trade Kaman along with Hill, then we safely get under the apron.

No way should we dump Hill unless we are guaranteed (waiving Brooks) to get under the tax threshold. If we dump Hill (for nothing) AND did not get under the tax threshold in the process... the FO needs to be taken out back and beaten!

I'd have given him a 15% chance before we tried to trade him.... this is news?

oh well, glad he's still here. Maybe if we fired Pringles the very same day the season end, Jordan might be more inclined to take another cut and stay with us long term.

I'm fine with Jordan Hill staying, but I'm a little unclear as to our current direction. I was fine with moving Blake - makes sense, but I thought we were going to try to get under the luxury tax threshold. Pau, Kaman and Hill are still here?

No one knows for sure at this point, but this is my current understanding of what happened. The main goal is to avoid the Repeater tax. They don't expect to have an issue with that the next 2 seasons. This year IF they could get under the Lux Tax line without literally giving players away they would have done so, but the amount of Lux Tax they will pay this one year is not that big of a deal to the team budget. Since they did not get the picks they wanted for Pau, Hill or Kaman they folded and will play again in the off season.

Who knows how it will all play out, but Mitch has earned enough good will with me that I am willing to wait and see.

We clearly let it be known that we don't want him. Heck we even put a price tag on it: a mere 2nd rounder.

This was an epic fail by LA...Brooks has been TRADED 3 times in his 4 year career. Bazemore is a minimum contract that has all of 25K guaranteed for next season.

Salary DUMP...heck, we even logjammed our roster with 15 with this move. So we can't pick up any scraps that fall via buyout. Those would probably be more promising to scoop up and have a shot at resigning this summer than these two.

This is a fail on every account. Kaman wanted a trade and Hill believed he was going to get traded....they're here. We've been messing with Pau for 3 years....he's still here.

At least my dude gets to stay here for another 28 games. :jam2:

Please fire MDA, so we can keep him next year.

OK, maybe I'm chiming in late. Forgive me, I'm a newbee.

The front office was pressured to shed salary and the other GMs knew it; hence they refused to give the Lakers a second rounder for Hill... or a first rounder for Pau. But why should they? There was almost zero market for Pau, and teams knew they were giving the Lakers a favor by taking Hill. Now if the Lakers front office had the brains to trade Pau to Cleveland, the other GMs would have known there was little to no pressure to trade Hill.

It serves the front office right. They handled the trade market like a bunch of roto-league chumps.
