Jordan Hill Discussion: Struggling in the new season

Re: Jordan Hill Discussion: Participated in Practice (63)

@KevinDing: Jordan Hill (hip) practiced some in halfcourt but won't play in this series. Nash (hamstring) practiced fully.

Won't play in this series as in not playing unless we advance to the 2nd round? Why the conflicting information, who says these things to the media officially?

Well... Crap. :man10:

I'm guessing he won't play because he's not in shape yet. It'll take a long time before he is and hopefully by the second round he's close enough to get some minutes.

Why because a reporter said Hill was practicing and another reporter gave a more in depth response as to what Hill was actually doing at practice?

because they never give accurate time line to player, you expect a week its 3 weeks, like Bynum before and Nash now, wouldn't surprise me one bit if Nash doesn't play Sun.

Well first of all the only two injuries that they haven't gotten either right or close to it are Nash and Bynum.

Second of all... these are media reports. The Lakers themselves didn't say "Nash is playing Sunday". A reporter said that he practiced, that's all. Same with Jordan. The Lakers themselves didn't say "Jordan is practicing and we expect him by such-and-such day". A reporter just said he was practicing today, that's all.

1.) That has nothing to do with Hill and how the medical staff is at fault for poor media reporting.

2.)
The team estimates it would take another 3-4 weeks of on-court basketball drills before Hill will be able to resume playing in games.

That's the last estimate the medical staff gave about Hill on April 11th. 3-4 weeks from April 11th isn't this Sunday.

It's not a huge deal that there were seemingly conflicting reports here, because there really weren't, I would just expect the Lakers seemingly official reporter (Mike Trudell @LakersReporter is his name after all) to be at least as thorough and specific as a guy from the OC Register with his reports is all. Maybe don't get our hopes up with the "Hill is practicing with the team" tweet without also pointing out that it's only half court and he won't play in games.

as much as i like what hill brings, i think against SA, clark/jamison are more useful. the lakers will miss hill if howard has foul trouble, though.

Howard potentially being in foul trouble is why Hill coming back would have been useful. However, if he's not ready then I'd rather not risk him playing and have him 100% healthy next season or the next series.

With Dwight & Pau playing so many minutes together, Hill isn't really what we need off the bench. I think we can survive with Clark/Jamison as long as D12 & Pau don't get in foul trouble or something. With Duncan & Parker in the paint you have to assume our bigs will have foul trouble, but as long as you have 1 of Gasol/Dwight out there at all times we're in good shape, as Gasol actually does a good job on Duncan most of the time.

It has been previously mentioned, but Lakers management never said anything about playing in this series. The last official comment from them already suggested he wouldn't be playing this series. Reporting does not equal official statements.

He showed great improvement from his time in preseason up until his injury. Before he was just a garbage guy getting put backs, but this year he had some nice moves to go along with it.

Agreed with the jumper. He's shown flashes with it, if he get develop some consistency with it, it will be huge.

Unless MDA decides not to play him. :freak2:

When we re-sign Dwight, Jordan would be a horrible fit playing right next to Dwight. He's developed a nice midrange J; nevertheless, defenses still sag off of Hill and crowd the interior. I think he's a nice bench piece, IMO. I wouldn't start him. I think we need more of his energy and effort coming off of our bench.

Dwight needs a stretch 4 starting next to him. Jamison actually fits the bill, but he's 37 and unreliable. I like Hill as our energy/hustle guy playing 20-ish minutes a game off the bench.
