Jordan Hill Discussion: Back for 2 yr/$18 mil

Re: Jordan Hill Discussion: hip surgery, out for season (p57)

As amazing as World Peace's recovery was, Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said several weeks ago it would take a "miracle" for Jordan Hill to return this season.

Hill, who has been out since January following left hip surgery, will have his hip examined in Nashville on Wednesday by Dr. Thomas Byrd, who performed the operation.

"Just a check up to see where we are at," Hill's agent, Kevin Bradbury, told ESPNLosAngeles.com.

Hill resumed elliptical workouts last month and said he hoped to be eligible to return by late April or early May if he were cleared.

Not saying he should rush it, but imagine if he could come back? Just in time for the playoffs? He would give us such a huge boost off the bench. I know it's a long shot but at this point I'm hoping everything goes right for the Lakers, the basketball Gods owe us for all the injuries!
I should get an assist for that. It's an intentional pass to oneself, so it's an assist. That way people can't say all I do is shoot.

Having him back would do wonders.

As it is we tend to struggle at the PF/C spot when Dwight's in foul trouble.

Imagine Dwight gets in foul trouble and instead of relying on Pau to defend the rim we have Hill?... How many runs from the other team do you think we could have avoided?

*sigh*

If only health had been on our side.

Would be great to have him back but who knows what kind of shape he'll be in. He might not be anywhere close to 100% like Dwight when he came back.

Kobe said Clippers' offensive rebounding the other night showed how Lakers miss @jordanchill43. Is it possible ...

for Hill to come back this season? He is recovering from hip surgery and is seeing his surgeon and head of therapy today and tomorrow, and the Lakers aren't forming an updated timetable for him until he finishes the exams tomorrow. It had not been considered very likely he'd come back this season, especially with Mike D'Antoni's penchant for going small.

But Hill tweeted today: "Check up went good...i will start back running in a week and jumping in a week and see how things go"

Would be huge to have him back on the team to start the playoffs with, 5 minute spurts a half can do wonders with the 2nd unit.

How will he fit in? With Clark & Jamison at PF/SF and Pau getting the backup C minutes, not sure if all 3 can be in the rotation.

Dwight is always getting into so much foul trouble on the road this is where Hill helps out. He can be that buffer between Pau and Dwight at the Center position, this deep into the season and still Dwight gets into foul trouble

Will be interesting to see how slowly D'antoni brings him along. He mentioned it being nearly impossible for him to get in game shape in time for the playoffs when he talked about Hill coming back before. Hopefully he's in good enough shape to give us some of what he did before, I'd love to see his activity next to the new & improved D12 & Earl.

Figure he starts his running on the 17th and maybe jumping the next day if the running feels ok. Then figure at least a week, more likely two to get into game shape, that takes him to the end of April. Lakers will likely start playoffs on Sunday the 21st if they make it in. Then Hill might make it back for Game 5 or something like that. Or more likely 2nd round if the Lakers somehow get past the 1st.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

the lakers need him back. his constant energy on the boards and on D and ability to put up a double double anytime is awesome. probably one of the more disappointing injuries this season. really hope he comes back for the playoffs. hill at 50% next to dwight or clark would be awesome. he was a monster for us in the playoffs before and i bet he can do it again. just hope he comes back...god knows we need him.

crazy how a seemingly nobody can become a huge part of our teams success. earl clark too. the role players are very important in this league

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/lakers/post/_/id/36392/jordan-hill-cleared-to-ramp-up-workouts
LOS ANGELES -- If the Los Angeles Lakers end up making the deep postseason run the team hopes it can, then there might be some help on the way for their depleted bench.

Backup big man Jordan Hill was examined by Dr. Thomas Byrd in Nashville, Tenn. this week and cleared to begin running on an altered-gravity treadmill starting Friday.

The clearance comes just three months after Hill underwent what was considered at the time to be season-ending surgery on his left hip.

Hill will begin running with 70 percent of his body weight, according to the team. He will gradually increase the weight on the treadmill, barring any setbacks, and be cleared for full weight-bearing running and jumping exercises once he reaches 100 percent.

The team estimates it would take another 3-4 weeks of on-court basketball drills before Hill will be able to resume playing in games.

The four-year veteran averaged 6.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 15.8 minutes per game this season.

If we make it to the second round, he'd be nice to have.

He'll be more important next season without Pau though.

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/227181/Jordan-Hill-To-Be-Cleared-For-Basketball-Activities-Next-Week

After running on an altered-gravity treadmill Friday in further progression from left hip surgery, Jordan Hill will be cleared for basketball activities next week and work to elevate his conditioning to the point where he can return to the Los Angeles Lakers, agent Kevin Bradbury told RealGM.

Hill was evaluated by his doctor this week to determine the timetable for a return, and he showed he was ready to be cleared for running and jumping drills. All along, the Lakers’ training staff has been impressed with Hill’s progress, diligence and attack in rehabilitating a hip injury that was believed to have ended his season.

Once Hill resumes basketball drills in the coming week, it “will just be a matter of basketball shape and when he can go,” Bradbury said. The Lakers said Thursday that Hill would need three to four weeks of on-court workouts to come back, but the 25-year-old forward will remain aggressive to beat that timetable.

The Lakers currently hold the eighth seed in the Western Conference, one game ahead of the Utah Jazz.

Hill established himself as an integral reserve for the Lakers a year ago and had continued his development this season. The fourth-year veteran averaged 6.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 29 games before the hip injury in January, and his Lakers teammates – headlined by Kobe Bryant – have made clear how vital Hill is to their defense and rebounding.
