Jordan Hill Discussion: Cleared to play (66)

there is just not enough mins to go around for everyone to be maximized...

Dwight needs 38. Pau needs 34 total. Jamison needs bigger mins which cuts Pau down to 26-28 at PF and then 10 at C. Jamison gets all the back up four mins and he deserves it if he can play the way he did last 2 games.

That means J Hill is the odd man out.

Only option to give Hill mins is to make him the primary back up C and not give Pau mins at the 5 or cut Jamison's mins at the 4. Under MDA, that's not happening.

Im not sure if Jamison being at the 4 has freed him up a bit or if his improvement just has to do with being more aggressive. Hopefully MDA will try it out somemore with Antwan at the 3 and see if he can still be just as effective. IMO the answer is no.

the best situation is to trade Pau for a very good SF in a trade that wouldn't bring anyone else back. Otherwise, Hill is going to be limited to about 4-8 mins a game.

Hill is a steal for the $$ and Ebanks is a somewhat nice young prospect. Pair those two with Blake's contract and we might get a real nice backup SF?

I've said elsewhere, if we trade Hill, we're in trouble. That would push Sacre into the rotation (just a bit). And one injury would mean that Sacre would have to play heavy minutes. I don't like that thought.

He probably would be a good fit for the system. If we made that trade, we'd HAVE to get some big to add to the mix somehow. If neither Clark nor Sacre is getting minutes, there are reasons for it.

Am I missing something? Is not Jordan Hill a very mobile, hustling, up tempo big? Why can't he be considered a mobile backup center, or forward playing with Pau when Jamison is not in the game?

Sounds like dantoni is going to have a soft euro team approach. Run and gun, but get their butts kicked when they play tough teams. The Thunder bigs must be licking their chops.

D12 is going to be playing a lot of minutes. With Jamison playing the 4 spot now instead of the 3, that leaves Jordan stuck playing the backup 5. Not a lot of minutes there.

We have the best Center in the NBA on our team who should play 34-38 mins a game.
We have a "pf" who is better suited at C.
We have a 6th man whi is a stretch 4 which compliments all the other parts on this team very well.

Meaning, Dwight gets the bulk of the mins and then Pau gets most the rest. Pau gets half at PF and Jamison gets the rest. Clearly, Pau is better at C and Jamison is more effect as PF.

It sucks there are not enough mins to go around, but that's the realty when you have a loaded roster. And we are loaded at the C/PF.

He's a difference maker but facts are facts and he is the end of the totem pole...

If I were Mitch I;'d be looking to trade Pau for a very good SF and a spare big man. Then let Antwan start and Hill get big mins.

Start Hill. Move pau to the bench and play Jamison at the 4 with pau. Pau would still play huge min. just like odom. What second string center can stop pau in the post?

Dantoni wants offense? Hill gets offensive rebounds, which in turn...creates more offense and more possessions. Jordans jumper has gotten better. He can operate 8-10ft from the rim. That gives howard room to do his thing.

The way Ron is playing now that he's in shape, I'd opt for more of a SF/PF type than an elite SF. Guys like Batum, George, Melo who can play 3 but are also quasi starters at the 4. I really like Batum & George for this team in the Shawn Marion role. We'd upgrade both foward spots, & with Pau gone, Hill could get all of the backup minutes at C.

We need to sit pau's sore azz for now with knee issues and play hill.

That's exactly why we wanted 4 solid bigs. To be able to rest hurt players. If we don't use it now, its a waste.

problem is that he doesn't have the skill set to play solid 4 in the NBA ... he needs somewhat reliable jumper and it is simply not there ... and he isn't combo 3/4 as Jamison is ... he would be an ideal back up C for us ... problem is that those minutes go to Pau because he needs them ... see my point? if he just had a solid 15 foot jumper (he has nice technique unlike dwight, he is just not consistent)

I'm not understanding this. Since when does being a hustling, extra effort, aggressive, defending, rebounding, making the plays push over Pau doesn't make, machine not qualify as a legitimate 4?

Wasn't dantoni' Pheonix Suns' weakness that they didn't have tough defenders? Wasn't that the one thing that would keep them from winning a championship? So it's the Lakers turn now to have an offensive machine with a weakened defense.

Who's going to protect D12 when it gets tough in the paint and opposing bigs are hard fouling him? Or when he gets in foul trouble, which he is prone to do?

I hope Pau play's his mins only with the starters. THat opens up mins for Hill at backup C with the 2nd unit. Pau doesn't impose himself offensively and post up and neither is he defending well. Just sit him, conserve his legs and play Hill more and give him a role

That sounds logical, but actually it wasn't the lack of D that hurt them. Their offense was so good and potent that playing tough defense wasn't even necessary. They failed few times in the WCF because they had injuries and suspensions to key players and this prevented them from beating San Antonio. Good defense would have helped, yes, but it wasn't crucial.

As long as Pau keeps missing jumpers & failing in general at PF, he'll get minutes at C. The last thing they're going to do is let him lose all of his value. He's already looking like the facebook ipo.
