Los Angeles Lakers forward Jordan Hill returned to practice Thursday, less than two weeks after being diagnosed with a herniated disk in his back.

Hill was not cleared for any contact, and will not play in the Lakers' exhibition game in Las Vegas against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. But if his recovery continues to progress as hoped, he remains on track to return by the Lakers' season opener on Oct. 30.

Hill said previously that he wouldn't need surgery to repair the disk.

Hill is going to have a big year provided he's 100%. He's found his niche with this team and added to his game in the offseason. He's going to breakout...

It wouldn't surprise me if he's our best bench player this season. He adds such a unique ability to provide, energy, rebound, and sound defense. We need him back. Once he comes back, it should make the bench and our team that much stronger...

I'd like to see if he actually developed a jump shot (like we saw glimpses of earlier in pre-season). That would just be icing on the cake. Every good team needs a Rodman or Varejao type of guy to make sure the opposing team gets no rest.

Maybe we can run a lineup like this off the bench:

Meeks/Ebanks/Jamison/Hill/(insert Pau or Howard here). More spacing and while Meeks isn't a PG by any stretch, he can do pretty much what Blake/Duhon/Morris can. Especially if we run the Princeton.

What is the rush? Let him sit until the season opener. We dont need him now. I think now is the best time to sit him out, maybe even a few games into the season. Playing inside is rough, so the more time we give his back to heal to 100% the better.
