Shaq won't get a statue because he was kind of a douche as a Laker and left on a sour note. But there's no question he was the best player on our 3-peat team and if he stayed on longer he would have got a statue.

For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

i really wish they hadn't put up a statue for frekin de la hoya though. west, chick, gretzky, magic, kareem...and oscar de la hoya? it just doesn't make sense

Why do you doubt that? Shaq is without question one of the Lakers best all time players. He won three championships here as the clear cut best player. He's the biggest reason (literally) that we were a dynasty earlier in the 2000's. It'll be a travesty if he doesn't get a statue.


Shaq don't need no damn statue. He won rings but a lot of what he could have maximized of his own talent while here he didn't, longevity wise. Unlike everyone else out there.
