Well there was more than just he and Shaq on those teams. I'm sure Kobe would say the best player was Shaq but this team from top to bottom is definitely better.

Those early 2000's team was great no question about it. You had two legit superstars argurably the two best overall players in the league on one team in the league in O'Neal and Bryant. The difference with this team is we have three superstars in Bryant, Nash, and Howard and an All Star in Gasol. Beyond that we have excellent role players like Jamison, World Peace, Meeks, and Hill.

Maybe it is my inability to obsess over Kobe that makes me see this differently but I do not see your point. It is "Kobe's" team plain and simple. There should be no question about the top dog on the team. We don't need a year long Wade or Bron session by the media. In any case it was a good answer to me.

And so it begins...this is why I disagree. Expect a ton of articles talking about Kobe calling the Lakers "HIS TEAM"....and expect the ESPN talk shows like 1st take to blow it out of proportion tomorrow. Dwight will probably feel a certain way about these comments too considering how he answered the same question by saying its "OUR TEAM".

But it's not wrong for Kobe to say it's his team because it is his team. Every team needs a leader, teams without a leader or leaders never win titles. Kobe is one of the greatest players of all time, Dwight isn't there yet, Nash is a leader but in a different way and he's a new guy here, so it's still Kobe's team. He's got the most experience, most rings, he's the biggest star, and he's just that type of guy, alpha of the team. Just like any team Michael Jordan walked on to if he ever would have changed teams, would have been his team. I don't see that as a bad thing at all and I don't think the rest of the team does either, even Dwight was saying he expects and wants Kobe to not take it easy on him. It doesn't even matter IMO if Dwight passes Kobe as the best player on the team in time, it will still be Kobe's team, just like when Fish was here even though he declined to the point of being one of our worst players, he was still a leader.

This is Kobe's team and it will be until he retires. But he's doing the right thing and preparing Dwight.
