I've wondered this at times. We've obviously seen Dwight post up, Metta, & even Pau. I have seen Kobe do it, too; just not enough for my taste, and I believe he'd do so with much better efficiency then any of the players I listed that like to play in the paint. However, you answered your own question, when you said too many people in the paint.
We don't have enough spacing with our starting unit. The only pure shooter we have is Steve who can re relied upon almost every game to be a threat from distance. Metta goes hot & cold. Pau isn't your ideal floor space & Dwight likes to operate in the paint. There is no floor balance.
Although, Metta has been good this season, I still think we need more of a pure shooter at the 3&4 positions. That would create more space inside the paint for Kobe to work in the post. Until that happens, he's going to be relegated to playing on the perimeter, IMO...
