^I still think this team needs another scorer. We need another perimeter player that can ease the burden off of Kobe. That would help a great deal, IMO...

I think this team has enough scorers as it is. We're lacking an athletic SF that can defend and provide some spacing to spell Artest. Clark is nice, but I tend to like him at the 4 moreso than the 3 spot.

Regarding the issue of Kobe continuing to play with this PG mentality... it's hard on him. What you would have to do is to completely re-wire his thoughts on his faith among his teammates. I would say it's very difficult to earn his trust; because he has such a "I want to win" attitude, it sometimes includes alienating his teammates in the process (when they have not produced results even though he has deferred).

Nash's quote "I think sometimes Kobe loses a little bit of faith in his teammates and goes into scoring mode" demonstrates Kobe's short leash on trust. A guy with his ability will always think "If they can't get it going, I can, so let's roll".

Gotta give it up to Bryant, he thought about going into "Mamba Mode" down the stretch but instead opted to keep his teammates involved. Phenomenal team play.

Could've EASILY had 12-14 assts if clark and jamison hit their open shots towards the end there. But i'll take the 11 assts. Great game from Magic Mamba. Averaging 16pts, 13assts, and 9rebs per game. He's on triple double watch every game with this mentality. Mind you this is the greatest SCORER of all time changing his game to become the league leader in ASSISTS and averaging a near triple double in the process. This right here is what I believe separates him from other greats in history. To be the ABSOLUTE BEST, at whatever he chooses to be the absolute best at. Mamba, you continue to surprise me 17 years later. I salute you

Love what he did tonight. I thought at one point I wished he would score just a bit more as we were slumping, but he found a good balance in the end. As said, he could have started taking contested shots in the final minutes, but he stuck to the game plan, kept moving the ball and guys (Nash, Jamison) rewarded that.

The dude really DOES look like Magic out there. Not quite the same flair for passes, but certainly the end result is similar...

Just really incredible the kind of player he is. And looking at how relatively easy this was for him I don't know that it's really THAT far fetched for him to continue doing this the majority of the season.

Kobe said if he focused on being a point guard he could have been the best point guard. "When I focus in on something I become obsessed."

Honestly, it's not just that he is passing first and looking to get assists over scoring that's the story so much to me, it's that he is passing so well. The caliber of his assist-making is absolutely elite level, better than most point guards, you have to give credit to Steve Nash as well of course since a lot of possessions start with Steve who sets Kobe up in a good position to operate overall(whether for a score or pass) but ultimately, anyone who ever doubted that Kobe has 'passing' chops has got to be looking pretty stupid right now. If Kobe dedicated a whole season to playing like this he'd probably average 9-10apg, no joke.

Still, I think I personally prefer Kobe when he's in Mamba mode and scoring effortlessly, but as we've seen a few too many times, it's not effortless for him anymore and sometimes he gets wiped out trying to score too much.

i think one thing to not overlook is that nash is usually on the same side as kobe. that limits guys ability to double team, forces someone from the weak side to double and allows for a cutter or a skip pass.

also allows quite a bit of high low action if pau is in the game.

kobe and nash definitely figured out a baseline of where guys need to be and what the options are on the offensive end.

and this is the Kobe-issue.... Had we lost that game how many would be murdering him for not taking shots? I wouldn't be surprised if he would of gotten accused of "throwing the game to get Mike gone". We know it has been said before. lol. Anycase, I too was like I want Kobe to attack the basket and put more pressure on the defense but the guys went at it and continued to move and take the open shots. The guy has been magical but his teammates have finally took their heads out of the damn dirt too.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.
