Actually he shot a better percentage, had a couple of more assists than tonight and made several more three pointers, so I don't think it's him playing better this game. It's just some people prfer him not taking the bulk of the shots and scoring the most of the points as most like to see a synchronized offense. But I want to continue to see reduced minutes for our starters. It's not good at all.

Yeah he didn't necessarily play "better". I mean when he's dropping 40 and hitting crazy 3's that's about as good as it gets.

But it looks like Nash running the O leads to everyone getting touches & thus being engaged on D.
and Kobe netting 27 points on 18 shots? Hard to say he wasn't equally as impressive tonight.

The lighter minutes were great, but regardless of how good this team gets that kinda rest won't be common against better teams.

Following the game, Kobe was asked about his own jersey retirement ceremony. Who would present his jersey when the time came? After pausing for a moment, Kobe responded, "I'd probably force Shaq to do it."

From Elias: Kobe Bryant scored 27 points over the first three quarters, then took the fourth quarter off and watched as the Lakers took the measure of the Trail Blazers, 104-87, writing finis to Bryant's streak of scoring 30-or-more points in each of 10 consecutive games. You have to go back to 1991 to find the last NBA player who scored at least 27 points in the game that ended a single-season streak of 10-or-more games with 30-plus points; that player was Michael Jordan, who finished with 29 points to end a streak of 10 straight games scoring 30-or-more points. The Lakers don't play again until the New Year, so Kobe finished December with averages of 33.79 points, 5.57 rebounds and 4.64 assists over 14 games played. Bryant has never had a month in his NBA career, regardless of the number of games played, in which he had averages as high as those in each of those three categories.

that would be perfect to have Shaq do it..... He is forever linked with him and after Kobe gets this next two Shaq will have to look up at him....lovely
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

He's had a few Decembers that are arguably better or close to it, but he's never scored as many points.

Those are just "Decembers".... the note Doc posted said " Bryant has never had a month in his NBA career, regardless of the number of games played, in which he had averages as high as those in each of those three categories"... so I assume that means all months.

Still seems odd that he's never averaged those numbers in a month yet had almost those average for an entire year.....

I knew I was going to go in there and showcase my talent. Which I did. The very first day I was 1 on 1 partners with Kobe. And we were going at it. [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] talking…elbows were thrown. To my surprise, after that first practice Kobe went to media and spoke highly of me. Everyday I played well and practiced well. Kobe continued to mentor me along the way. The Laker fans embraced me. I just knew I was in.

Then I got a call from Leon (my agent) saying they were going to let me go. They told me I played great. The numbers on the business side just wouldn’t work. It was one of the worst phone calls I’ve ever gotten, but I was at peace because I knew I played my [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] off. I brought it every day. My motto is “control what you can control” and I did that. That didn’t matter though. Once it got released that the Lakers let me go, the people thought it was due to my game. People had jokes. People wrote me off. It was embarrassing. However, I took positives away from my month with the Lakers too.

I developed a relationship with Kobe Bryant. He showed me how to be a pro. He showed me real work ethic. Playing against him everyday made me so much of a better player. He understood me. He understood that its a difference in having a bad attitude and being competitive and wanting to win every drill/game. One night after a game and we were in the showers and he told me ‘you have no other choice. You were put here to be basketball player. You have to fight until you’re one of them boys. You’re too talented. I played behind mfers that I was better than up until my third year but I KNEW I would be who I am today then. I work too hard not to break through.’

That stuck with me. So I appreciate the opportunity the Lakers gave me. I looked at that month with the Lakers as an internship under Bean. I gained knowledge that I couldn’t have gotten any other way. That’s what I took from that situation. It’s all about how you respond when times are rough.”

I think it's right, including playoffs even!

It does make sense though. Usually, Kobe's scoring outbursts are not accompanied by a large number of assists. So he goes in to these periods of time where he is hot, but doesn't pass a lot. Then, after he cools back, he does more dishing and less scoring.

He got very close to having 'better' months across the board twice I believe.

April 2007 - 34.10 PPG, 5.50 RPG, 5.70 APG so he was off by 0.07 RPG.
Oct 2007 - 45 PPG, 8 RPG, 4 APG (1 game though) so he was off by 0.64 APG.

durants probably gonna win it. 31.0 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 3.8 APG and his team was 10-2 this month. kobe had his 10 game 30+ point streak but the lakers went 7-7.

That's an almost perfect coin flip right there in my book. Tough call (unless you're selecting as a Laker fan) but if you try to step back and really look at it, that's pretty tough. Kobe with slightly better numbers but Durant had better success with his numbers. Honestly, if either player won, I think it is well deserved.

.................... the things kobe does. Also even more recently, in the wcf in the playoffs 2010, 33.7ppg, 7.2 rpg, 8.3 apg on 52% shooting. THATS friggin DOMINANT! That last game where kobe just slit their throats with clutch shot after clutch shot and slapped Gentry's butt, is still one of my favorite games to watch.

You're right. I read that incorrectly. I just took a look a quick look at every month of his career, and the stat is surprisingly right. There were a few that were better/extremely close though like...

06-07 (March): 40.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 4.5 apg
06-07 (April): 34.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.7 apg

05-06 (December): 32.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 4.8 apg
05-06 (January): 43.4 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 4.1 apg

There are several other notable ones too.

Wow.... thanks for the effort in digging that up.... :jam2:

The March 07 month is the most impressive one in that group.... 40 points and another 9 accounted for in assists while grabbing 6.2 boards.... Knowing the group he played with then he probably had 3 or 4 great passes go off Kwame's chest out of bounds as well....
