Kobe Bryant Discussion: Reason for Lakers downfall?

At last - some good news! :jam2:

Has it been seven months since the injury?

Seems like only yesterday.

Etched in my memory.

7 mo is quick but not unheard of. I was targeting early Dec to Jan

It will probably take him a few weeks to get it all back. It will be great to see him out there instead of our current rotation at SF/SG

I wish I could go too, but this late, I'm sure it's sold out or ridiculous expensive... then again, it's not at Staples Center, so I might be over estimating the price of tickets, and the fact that Kobe was out, tickets might still be available.

I can get them through my job, nothing crazy just regular seats, I just checked again and the cheapest I can get is $85, the seats are in the upper level in the corners, which aren't great.

It's not THAT bad though, they went down from when I first checked. If that's something you'd be interested in lemme know and we'll go together. I haven't checked stubhub or any of those sites so I don't have any prices to compare it to.

I didn't realize you lived in NYC, how recently have you been down here?

My company relocated me about two months ago. I live in Queens now.

I checked stubhub and ticketmaster, and the cheapest they have is around $100 so your connect sounds best. But after looking at my schedule, there's no way I can do that game right now. Work is crazy. But Lakers play Knicks out here in January if you're up for that game. Let me know through PMs.

Nice man, I'm in Staten Island. Definitely up for that game, those tickets are even more expensive though. If you can find something reasonable let me know, but regardless I have to go to that game. It'd be pretty cool to meet a fellow CLer at a game.

I really hope he's not rushing back.
There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

I love hearing about the intensity picking up in practice the instant he's back........ :man9:

This team needed it's leader and backbone back.... time to crack the whip and set the tone like few players can.

Me too, I mean I've been pestering people on other sports forum about how Kobe needs to hurry up and get back so I can watch him play, but in reality I want him to take his time and be cautious. I think Kobe just loves basketball so much though. I mean during his injury healing process his butt did not sit still he was out diving, and all over the place. He had to keep himself from being bored imo, until he got back to basketball lol.

Cha ching T…
Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant has been in the NBA for a very long time. He’s made tons of money and is no stranger to people trying to make some coin off all his hard work and success. If it’s not his parents trying to reap the Black Mamba benefits, it’s probably going to be someone else in his family. Now we’re being told his cousin is has released a tell all book. Here’s the thing, technically it’s a fictionalized version of Kobe and his family…Reading between the lines, it sounds a whole lot like Kobe Bean.-TO

This is the book

I'm not overly concerned about 24 on offense. He'll know what he can or can't do yet. It will come together for him there in due time. His individual on ball defense is where the bigger question lies. How will he adjust to opponents having a go at him knowing that he could be possibly limited?

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 3m
Kobe: “I’m pleasantly surprised … I felt fine. My legs didn’t feel tired at all. I just went out there and played.”

Kobe: “It felt good to compete. Get out there & move around, play with my guys, against my guys.”

More @kobebryant: “There are still areas where it needs to get stronger in terms of the jumping, being able to plant (and move).”

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 2m
Bryant can obviously adjust his game around what he can specifically do today, but wants to keep gaining strength overall.

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 1m
The next step for Bryant: simply seeing how he feels tomorrow after his most extensive practice thus far. He’ll do plenty of work tonight.

I think 2-3 weeks more, and then THE RETURN!!! :jam2: :jam2: :jam2: :jam2: :jam2:

and some more updates

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 3m
Kobe said he won’t have a plan about how to play between scoring/facilitating when he returns: “That’s predicated on the defense.”

Eric Pincus ‏@EricPincus 3m
Mike D'Antoni said near impossible that Kobe plays Friday

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 2m
Kobe: “My job is to make the game easier for my teammates” by drawing attention and double teams.

Los Angeles Lakers ‏@Lakers 2m
What did Kobe improve while he was out? “I’m a lot, lot stronger. Able to hold defenders off with my off-hand. Much, much stronger.”

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 1m
Kobe on how his teammates responded when they saw him put his practice jersey on the first time: “They knew they had to bring their A game.”

I asked Kobe about renewed appreciation for the game and competition. He smiled huge and said it felt like 1997...

Mike Trudell ‏@LakersReporter 2m
Bryant must be feeling better: he just dropped his first expletive of the season on camera. Always a good sign.

KEVIN DING ‏@KevinDing 2m
Asked if he could see himself playing this month, Kobe said he could.

OH my ...... I am in a Heaven. The League is on notice.... Mamba gonna getcha, gonna getcha..
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Yeah, I can't say I am surprised anymore by what Kobe add to his game, but its amazing that even when injured and not able to play he is always finding a way to better himself.

Just incredible I was so excited to get on twitter around noon today to read all the updates from practice :jam2:  :jam2:

Its things like this that make me look back at what happened to Kobe when he tore his Achilles and think everything happens for a reason. This could very well have been a blessing in disguise in the since that Kobe now has even more thirst for the game of basketball and needed something (this injury) to catapult him further.

Like Gary Vitti said the very next day at Lakers practice when Kobe tore his achilles. Gary told the reporters that in the locker room when Kobe was angry and frustrated about the injury he told Kobe that "this is just another challenge in your life the game of basketball comes to easy for you so you need these things."

No to SF. If he's stronger, post him up against SG's, have Kobe save his energy playing the post rather than trying too much around the perimeter.

Keep him from guarding SF's and use Wes Johnson's length and defensive prowess at the 3.
