I don't want to say it's a good thing, but it's certainly not bad. There's no reason for him to rush back to this lottery bound team, and now his body won't allow him to, so no big deal.

The perfect situation would be Kobe returning for just long enough to play himself back into good game shape & start looking like pre-injury Kobe, while not building enough chemistry with the team yet for it to start translating into more wins. We show any player looking to bring his talents to LA that they'll have a proven champion to lead them while also preserving our high pick. Perfect.

Kobe is a great competitor but it would suck for him to comeback to this bad team and damage his legacy... he has accomplished enough in his career... and has nothing to prove.... I hate when Magic Johnson always talks about the Lakers especially when it's negative but he is 100% correct that he should sit out the season and get ready for next year.

If I'm reading between the lines Kobe won't really return this year but he'll keep up the illusion that he is.

Maybe he will, maybe he won't.... all I know is it's very pointless to come back to a losing atmosphere... he has no reason to come back... this franchise is looking into the future.... he isn't gonna have a chance to win his 6th ring by coming back... he can wait for that next year were we will possibly have a very good draft pick and a star FA.

And Kevin Ding somehow can predict future or something like that?
If MRI shows that bone is healed, i'm sure Kobe will practice one week with team and then comeback, if it's case like Xavier and bone is not ready jet, then yeah, no returning until it's healed, few more weeks.
Kobe himself talked during this road trip that he is watching what he is eating, and also that he is trying to stay in shape as much as possible by riding bike, because that's only what he can do at this point, this is huge, and it's not like achilles when he didn't do anything for 6 months and didn't watch what he was eating.

And it's really important for Kobe to comeback this season, not because winning, no, he still have to figure out what kind of player he is now after achilles injury, and this is the best time to "experiment" on himself and see how much he can do, it's really important to come back, because no matter how much practice you put in, nothing can simulate REAL GAME action.
This team will not win anything this year, so it's much better for him now to return and work on his game, to be 100% ready for next season to make another run.
Also, he will have whole summer to work, that is big time, Kobe didn't have whole summer to prepare for long long time because long playoff runs.

This. Kobe needing even more time could turn into a blessing in disguise. Even though I dont think we would have won many games when Kobe would be returning I do think that after he gets his legs back into game shape (2-3 weeks) we would start winning a few games.

Well now, all of that gets pushed back even further.

I know some one here say that we need Kobe back not so we can win games but to show other free agents that he can still bring this. This is true, but what free agents are you talking about. We aren't getting Lebron and frankly nobody really wants Melo either on this board for the most part. Priority #1A in my opinion is to get Kobe as healthy as we can, take his time. Priority #1B is to try and be in the best possible position to get the number 1 pick in the draft without truly "tanking" (trying really hard to win games, but can't seem to do it)

How quickly they forget??

Lakers 9-8 in that stretch RT @ChrisPalmerNBA:
Kobe Bryant (25-day stretch in 2007):
65, 60, 53, 50, 50, 50, 50, 48, 46, 43, 39, 34

if someone today can put those numbers, world would absolutely blast.
KD is nice, but what Kobe did is insane.

24 should shut it down. It is pointless for him to come back. It would take another Herculean effort for him to drag this squad to a playoff berth. Actually, a miracle... Even so, for what. The ignomity of another first round sweep? D'Antoni does not have the brass to sit him. It will just lead to further injuries.
No siggie...

According to the sports director for the student radio station at the University of Miami Kobe Byrant got a parking ticket while attending a business class. He tweeted, “The Golden Maserati presumably belonging to an NBA star must still feel the weight of the law at UM” I say if Kobe was kind enough to visit, you let that one go.-TO

Per Lakers.com: He's going to be reevaluated in 3 weeks, there's still swelling and pain in the knee.

The last Laker game of the season is April 16th, if indeed he's out for at least another 3 weeks, he might as well shut down (not that he will).

I know the knee fracture will eventually heal no problem, but James Worthy said it best at halftime tonight when he said that with Kobe now being older and having so many minutes under him he just take longer to heal then he did when he was 23.

I think there is a ton of truth to this and its kind of scary because in the next two years, what usually might be considered a minor injury for Kobe could turn into something longer.

Getting old sucks......especially when its your favorite player who is getting old :man5:

Agreed. I don't want him to return this season. No reason to. Heal it up Kobe.
