Lakers will play the waiting game and say : "Kobe will be a game time decision " then 2-3 hours before tip-off from Mike Trudell twitter " Kobe is feeling better and will start tonight" ... SO used to this

Depends on who you call the greatest laker ever IMO. 1) MJ, 2) Kareem, 3) Greatest Laker -> Magic or Kobe. 5) Bill Russel. 6) Bird.

Injury Update: Kobe’s Foot

With Dwight Howard and Jordan Hill returning from respective back injuries, the only question mark heading into Tuesday’s regular season opener was Kobe Bryant’s right foot.

Bryant initially strained the foot in last Sunday’s preseason loss to Sacramento, and called it “painful” when addressing the media on Tuesday. He has not practiced all week, and again sat out Saturday’s session to get treatment from L.A.’s training staff.

That said, there was some optimism surrounding the team that Bryant will be able to play in the season opener against Dallas in three days.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if he did play,” said coach Mike Brown. “But we’ll see.”

Head trainer Gary Vitti and Bryant himself will play a decisive role in whether or not No. 24 is ready, but nobody is going to count out the player NBA GM’s recently voted the league’s toughest.

Come on now, we all know that Mr Bryant will play. He will just double tape that foot and go out, i'm 100% sure.
Remember last year what happens with that wrist on shooting hand? It was really bad, BUT we are talking about Kobe, he just put tape around it and play with it for 1/3 of season.
Full starting lineup vs Mavs on tuesday.

It's looking like he may not be able to play in the opener. There's still a couple days until the opener, but I'd rather he rest it if needed than go out there and injure it again.

injured again in the preseason. why does he have to go so hard in the preseason...just take it slow so you can get out there 100% for the opener. hope hes fine by then

i think it was when he cut down the middle and tripped or something and pau threw the ball over his head out of bounds.

obviously not his fault...but he was going all out during the preseason when he prob shouldnt have been imo just like last year with the wrist

^Yeah it was that play. They showed a replay of it in the last game. He stepped up on a defender's foot and rolled it the opposite direction you would normally roll your ankle (rolled it outward). Fell down, got up and limped very mildly but looked fine afterwards.

I think Kobe should have done the Ladanian Tomlinson preseason. And not played. Who cares about chemistry. I would sacrifice a few losses at the beginning of the regular season to make sure he comes in without some meaningless game injury.

The Lakers have been known to be not exactly forthcoming with medical diagnoses. There is the outside possibility that the injury is more serious than previously described.

At which point of the game did the injury supposedly happen? I am watching the recording and trying to find it. Ironic thing about the game is that it's Nash's ankle injury which looked way more serious and had everyone scared. No one even knew Kobe was hurt.

I'm surprised you guys have any doubt that he won't play on Tuesday. This is the Mamba we're talking about.

Sources close to Bryant's thinking told me that they "wouldn't be surprised if he played Tuesday."

He knows they will have a very long season (and if they don't heads will roll). He's just trying to get right before the long haul begins.

If something's broken, I'm sure they can't hide it for much longer, and he'll be out for a while (couple of months at least I would think).

^^ nothing's broken.. His injury was listed as a foot strain. The therapy he's doing (picture) is different from what you'd do with fractures.. Worst case IMO it's like kray said it could be a couple of pages a go, a sprain instead of a strain
