Real.... Think of it this way.... Kobe on the team or not.... Which team makes more money and how much more?

It's more than what's on the floor.... Especially when your over the cap and need all of the revenue you can get. 12 million for his value on the floor is one thing...20 million for his value to the front office is another....

I understand he would bring the franchise more money, but at what cost to the Dwight are they willing to do that? I don't see it.

If Kobe returns, I don't see it being for more than 15 million at the absolute most. The Lakers are loyal to their greats, but they're more loyal to their fans and to winning Championships. This team would be fortunate next season to contend with Kobe making 30 million. They'd be even more fortunate to win a Championship with an older Kobe Bryant for 20 million. Kobe knows that. The Lakers know that. The Lakers also know that Kobe isn't going to go somewhere else. He's said so, he's made that clear. He'll either retire or take as little money as possible to field the best possible team.

If he's staying it isn't for more money. He's got enough. If he's staying it's for the chance to deepen his legacy.

Enjoy it while you can indeed, can't believe he can still perform like this at the end of his 17th season.

The only guy out there besides Earl Clark playing with heart. Kobe is the man.

I really question the rest of these guys right now and the coach as well. Same crap third quarter as usual. We're lucky they decided to go with Hack a Dwight - that actually worked in our favor.

Lakerjones, that was a bad stretch for sure, but I thought everyone played with remarcable effort, not just Kobe and Clark.
The 3rd quarter run Dallas hit us with had more to do with us missing the shots we were hitting than with, say, missing assignments or playing lazy, or any other usual consequence of lack of effort.
I thought our guys did bring it.

As for Kobe, his greatness speaks for itself.
However, it was very nice to hear Reggie Miller and Chris Webber (both played for a long time themselves) marvelling at the level Kobe was playing in his 17th season, especially with all the mileage he's got on his body (back to back 47+ minutes games after tonight :man4: )
He's quite unique.

Oh, and that hookshot was SWEET.

Yeah, going 3 for 18 will hurt you badly. But they played like a bunch of idiots again too. At some point you have to play with some pride and and just get things turned around. That's what Earl Clark did for us when the rest of these morons were letting yet another absolutely vital, must-win game slip away. And Kobe was ridiculous. Vintage. And still playing with bone spurs. Been said many times, but this guy is just not human. Triple double, blocking shots, making hook shots, killing it on a bum wheel with bone spurs, playing all but the last 55 seconds of the game. That's just insane.

From Kevin Ding:

Here's proof that @PhilJackson11 is still coaching the Lakers in some sense: Kobe said with Phil watching, he ...

knew he had to mind his "P's and Q's" and play a good game.

"If I didn't, I know I'd get a long text from him asking what the hell I was doing," Bryant said.

Kobe also used the occasion to refer to various things as "what Phil taught."

Special, they will always be inter-connected :jam2:

LJ- I didn't watch the same game you did. We went on a dry spell but the guys came with the effort and energy from the start. They played solid defense all game holding a Mav's team to 80 points. They got a little careless with the ball but held their poise and made it happen. Even though Kobe had a trip-dub I didn't think he had to carrry the team. Tonight was a good game from my POV.

Admittedly I tuned in for the third quarter on, and at a certain point I knew absolutely that they were going to relinquish most of their lead. They did. And they were moronic while they did it. It was the same crap they've been doing over and over at home in the third quarter. What was so different about it? They had a 15 point lead that they let go down to 5 in just over 9 minutes. They aren't going to win anything doing that same old nonsense. Imagine if Dallas were actually a playoff team. This was actually one of the easier teams we are going to play in this final stretch. Same old same old.

Maybe our disagreement stems from me thinking missing shots and maybe even making a couple of dumb mistakes doesn't mean they weren't playing hard. They weren't playing lazy or looking complacent or desinterested. They did look cold (shooting-wise), and they made a few mistakes on both ends, but I thought the effort was always there.
I agree that Clark was on another level though, he got us out from that whole pretty much by himself.

Regarding Kobe, this tweet summarizes his effort pretty well:
Scott Howard-Cooper ‏@SHowardCooper 33m
Kobe Bryant has played all but 1 minutes 19 seconds of the two games since leaving the locker room in Milwaukee with a crutch.

Pretty much sums up my thinking.

Also, a lot of the previous times we've allowed teams to trim away until our lead was gone had to do with our defensive effort. Tonight I didn't think that was really the problem. We went cold and they hit some shots, but we weren't playing lazy D like we have in the past.

LJ-'ll just disagree with your assesment. Dallas has been playing great ball. They are one of the top shooting teams in the league. They have 4 players in the top 25 in 3 point shooting and Dirk and VC have been balling. Every team goes on runs and a 15 point lead can go down to 6 points in a matter of a minute. Yes, they had a lull and had some plays where we stood around, yet, they stopped the runs and made runs of their own. I saw the game differently than you did. In the end, we made plays when we needed too and righted the ship when we had too.

^^ That's cool Finwë and Puffy. To me it's kind of splitting hairs - you say we hustled in that third quarter and just missed shots. Again, I say they acted like morons out there with the exception of Kobe and Clark. Perhaps my perception was different because I listened on the radio and I could tell they were going to losing that lead, and they did. To me it was about the bottom line. They lost a huge lead once again at home in the third quarter. They let it dwindle down to five and just kept going back up then letting it slip again through most of the fourth. They didn't expand upon their half time lead until Hack a Dwight went into effect and helped seal the game for us. It's not always going to work out that way. This team needs to find something they can go to when the other team rallies. It seems like they generally lack a counter punch.

LJ-I don't know how the Radio announcers called it. I watched the game and saw that dallas was able to hit a couple shots and we missed a few. Again if a team hits two 3 pointers and a duece while we come up dry on two straight times down that is an 8 point swing. The only time, in my opinion, we played really bad was in the 3rd where we stopped moving without the ball. Yes, guys kind of stood around and we made some bad choices. The Mav's went on a 11-2 run or somthing but we still had an 7 point lead when Mike D called a timeout. We came out of the timeout and pushed the lead back up to double-digit. The effort, the fight, the energy and the response to adversity was all there which is something winning teams have to have. And when they went to the Hack-A-Dwight he responded and made the shots.

I actually wonder. I wouldn't put it past him to try.

If Kidd can do it (play PG relatively well) when he is 38 (2 seasons ago?) - Kobe sure can.
