Seems like a bunch of coddled retirees embarrassing themselves and tarnishing their family name because of pointless material desire.

Kobe Bryant Wins Courthouse Assist From Sister in Memorabilia Dispute With His Mother

Kobe Bryant
Los Angeles Lakers' superstar Kobe Bryant is receiving an assistant this morning in his legal battle to permanently block his mother and an auction house from selling more than $1.5 million worth of his personal memorabilia to the public in June.
Sharia Washington, Bryant's sister, filed a May 11 declaration that states their mother, Pamela Bryant, has been determined to cash in on the NBA player's success by selling his belongings, according to records inside Orange County's Ronald Reagan Federal Courthouse.

Though Washington says she has "never been privy" to discussions between her mother and Bryant about ownership of the memorabilia, she wants U.S. District Court Judge Andrew J. Guilford to know that her mom "frequently" talked "about how the family can make money on items associated with Kobe."

The Laker, who is reportedly worth more than $200 million, lives in a gated Newport Coast community and often uses a helicopter for traffic-defeating transportation, has filed lawsuits to block his mother and Kennth Goldin, owner of Goldin Auctions, LLC, from selling items such as high school basketball team jerseys, medals, trophies, rings and net pieces from memorable, youthful victories.

Goldin, who has already paid Pamela Bryant an advance of $450,000, claims he can sell the memorabilia on her behalf because she is the rightful owner of the items.

To bolster his case, Goldin noted in legal briefs that Pamela has been paying $1,500 a month for five years to house the items in a West Berlin, New Jersey storage facility because "Kobe Bryant indicated to her and that he had no interest in them."

Kobe, who wants his memorabilia to belong to his children, rejects the assertion and now points to his sister's declaration that their mother can't be trusted, according to court records.

"For a number of years I have stored memorabilia from Kobe's music career in the garage of my Las Vegas residence," Washington said in the sworn, one-page declaration. "My mother, Pamela, noted that I 'need to keep that, because it will be worth something.' I recently returned all of that memorabilia to Kobe because my mother has access to my garage and I fear that she would try to sell that memorabilia."

In another example cited in her filing, Washington claims her mother encouraged her to get Kobe to sign an Olympic basketball t-shirt so it would increase in value and she could sell it.

Joseph Bryant, Kobe's father and a retired professional basketball himself, backs his wife's version of reality.

Guilford is scheduled today to hear arguments from the auction house that the lawsuit belongs in New Jersey and that Bryant is not entitled to additional injunctive relief.

According to court records, Bryant's parents want additional income to help pay for a new home in Las Vegas.

Mom on a gold-digging trip. Sad when people see a kid, friend, loved one as a dollar sign.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

I know my mom has all my trophies and medals from my youth. I'd be pissed the hell off if she sold them, gave them away, and I'm obviously nowhere near a professional athlete. My mom has that stuff for display, to proudly show off her sons' achievements and if I outlive her then they will be back in my possession eventually.

I don't believe for one minute that Kobe ever fully "gave" them away so they can then be auctioned off and disappeared forever. No way. Mom is the scandalous one here.

I think this is the first time Ive commented on this because, well.... Anyway, I just had to say that I love how his father points out that his wife is in the right because Kobe gave her the stuff. 'Cause nothing says your proud of your son like selling his stuff to buy things you dont need.

If they were struggling for money it'd be a different story. Balking at a $250K gift from your son because you want twice that amount as a down payment (!) on what Im guessing would be a second or third house says alot of things about someone. Struggling for money isn't one of them though.

When Kobe returns it will be his burst and explosion that will take time. He will have a Stronger tendon than before.

Great news. Amidst all the drama going on in Kobe's life with his parents, I'm glad he's healing just fine. I've love to have him back by October. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Right around Father's day no less

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... -his-room/

Judge sets June trial for Kobe, his mom, to argue about stuff he left in his room

UPDATE 2:52 pm: So we get to hear about this for another month. Lucky us.

Tuesday a judge set a June 17 trial date for deciding whether Kobe Bryant‘s mother can auction off some Kobe memorabilia in her possession. The judge also the two sides to sit down and try to come to an agreement before the trial and not waste the court’s time (well, too late for that, I guess). While it is Kobe and his mother that have the disagreement, the lawyers on that side work for the auction house, Goldin Auctions, which of course stand to make a nice profit off of this auction. If it goes forward.

11:02 am: This entire thing is just sad. But here we are.

The attorneys representing Kobe Bryant, and the other ones representing his mother, head to court on Tuesday to let a judge decide if an auction house can sell off some Bryant memorabilia in the possession of his mother. There are more than 100 items his mother would like to auction, including a Lower Merion game-worn high school jersey and a replica 2000 Lakers championship ring.

This is like the argument you had with your mother when you left stuff at her house, except that she just donated or threw out your stuff because it wasn’t worth crap. Kobe’s mom got a $450,000 advance from the auction company (which she used to put a down payment on a house).

Kobe’s argument is simple — it’s my stuff. She can’t sell my stuff. He and his wife said they had asked for the stuff back years ago. He said there was a May 2 phone conversation where he told his mom not to sell the stuff and she agreed. There is a lot more legal jargon and it took high-priced attorneys hours to put together, but that pretty much sums up his claim.

Kobe’s mother, Pamela, and father, Joe, filed papers in court saying Kobe lied to them, reports the Los Angeles Daily News.

“This conversation never occurred and I never made that statement,” Pamela Bryant said. She added Kobe “never demanded the return of any of the items, nor were they in any way improperly taken from him without his permission.”

“My son gave my wife these items over the years, stating, ‘Here mom, these are for you,’ ” Joe said. He said he advised Kobe to “set up a room in his California house to display the items.” But Joe said Kobe “declined to do so.”

And here we are.

The Bryant family relationship is so strained attorneys need to sort it out in court a couple days after Mother’s Day. That’s sad.

^^Kobe's stuff and without his work ethic and talent it wouldn't be worth anything..... not sure how his parents can lay claim to any of it on a moral basis..... but hey.... nothing moral about Family spats... especially when theres a lot of lettuce at stake.....

My problem is that even if Kobe said, "here mom these are for you" that doesn't mean you go and sell them because the kid is famous. I'd think differently if they were struggling to make ends meet and ran out of options but this is for another....yes, ANOTHER, house. That is just plain greed and it is sad.

Classic Phil.

Kobe can do whatever he likes, but his tattoos so far suck, and rosary beads would be even worse than his current ones.

I'll LOL when he gets it.

Is Sharia Washington his actual sister or in-law? If that's his actual sister, then yes, his family is in complete disarray over the fame and fortune of Kobe.
