There's another picture I was referring too...I think I may have seen it on LG. He looks lighter than what he did when he initially came back, IMO.

I was going to say... :man10:

Man you've got to be some sort of body expert if you can tell he lost weight through all those clothes!

that is only the case if Kobe plays before the Allstar game. If he doesn't play before the game then he can not be penalized for not playing in the game. That is my understanding of the rule.

^^^

"If I played [for the Lakers] before [the All-Star Game], the rule is you got to go in there and play or miss the next two games," said Bryant. "So, that just means somebody would have to lose a spot, unfortunately and the back-ups would be playing a lot, because I'd go in there and do my two minutes and sit out."

While Bryant referenced a rule, no such rule is believed to actually be in the NBA's handbook. A league source said that the automatic two-game suspension that Bryant referred to was "not really true."

Bryant was in a similar situation the last time the All-Star Game was held in New Orleans in 2008, coincidentally. Bryant was diagnosed with a torn ligament in his right pinkie finger shortly before the game was held. Because Bryant gutted out the injury in games for the Lakers, he was urged by the league to play in the exhibition. The four-time All-Star MVP played just 2:52 with the pinkie injury, registering one rebound and no shot attempts before calling it a night.

it may not have been in the rule book but Stern made it clear that any player who played before the allstar game but did not play in the Allstar game they would have to sit the next 2 games. You didn't imagine it cause I remember it too.

That "not really true" is the confusing part. My memory says it was a stern threat.

from 2008

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/allstar2008/news/story?id=3246576

He has been replaced in Saturday's Long Distance Shootout by Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, but the NBA's longstanding policy on these matters would require Bryant to take some part Sunday because he did play Wednesday and since he's planning to play Tuesday against Atlanta in the Lakers' first game after the break. Boston's Kevin Garnett and Washington's Caron Butler have already pulled out of the East lineup with injuries.

stern (or will it be silver?) should select an extra player for the Western Conf team. then let Kobe have a 90 second cameo and done for the night. Have someone commit a foul if necessary to stop play and let Kobe out.
I shall be telling this with a sigh

I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

While I agree for the most part.... Dwight was the one that said he was going to change and there had been pressure on him to be a leader. Kobe knows when it's clobberin time and will have the right mental mindset for it. Howard OTOH..... well.... I saw the fake chest compressions again the other night.....

Kobe has been displaying nothing but struggle faces on the bench during the games. He has ony smiled when talking after the game to Bron and Melo, which I feel is a good thing if he's going to try an recruit them this summer to come to the lakers!!! :jam2:

For the love of God, Kobe, please do not come back this season. It's a wrap. Let us get that high pick and we'll retool and rebuild this summer. Once again, injuries were the death of us, and on top of that, we have a crap coach who will HOPEFULLY not be around next season...Lionel Hollins anybody?

How random

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/ ... -together/

Kobe Bryant, 50 Cent, Meryl Streep just hanging out together…

Sunday morning, as so often happens, Meryl Streep and 50 cent had the exact same thought — I’d like to watch some hoops today. Maybe see Carmelo Anthony go off against the Los Angeles Lakers’ “defense.” And the Knicks are all into having celebs at their games.

So they did, Streep and 50 cent were seated next to each other courtside at the Knicks win Sunday over the Lakers at Madison Square Garden. They even were laughing and holding hands at points (seriously, I could not make that up).

After the game they hung out with Kobe Bryant for a while and posted to Instagram. Because of course they did.

We have 8 more games until the All-Star Break...if I am Kobe, I sit out those 8 games and come back after the All-Star break...that will give him 29 games to test out his Achilles and the bone in his knee that was fractured. As of now, we're already out of the PO's, the extra time off won't hurt and will give him additional practice time...

Sounds like a plan and I like the idea a lot.

As numerous others have mentioned, I think it is very important for Kobe to come back at some point and start showing he can be dominant again before the season is over, to show potential free agents that he is still a TOP player in the league. Late enough mind you to not jeopardize much our ping pong ball status, but yeah ….. come back and make an impact and start the team winning some games they had been losing. Right now he is a huge question mark with two bad injuries you'd not want to hope for.

Good points LT. I didn't think about it that way. But I also think we need to think about the Lakers future here...getting a higher pick in THIS draft will obviously benefit our future post-Kobe more than a few extra wins with Kobe to attract potential free agents who may or may not come to us this summer....you gotta weigh those trade offs...and even IF those free agents do come (melo), how much can they really help this team win? Unless the Lakers have a plan in place to get Melo this summer and K-Love next summer...i dunno...it just seems like rebuilding is the better way to go and Kobe sitting out a full year will help us rebuild quicker. It's tough but it's kind of a crosssroads for Lakers fans and Lakers management....

I don't think we have to worry about racking up too many wins even if Kobe comes back & returns to near full strength.. Just like we saw when he returned for 6 games, there will be an adjustment period while everyone gets used to playing Kobe ball.

I'm projecting the Lakers to go 25-57 whether Kobe is healthy or not....
