I was listening to Colin Likes To Hear Himself Talk Today, and SAS was on there talking about Kobe. He said he expects him back this year and that he will sign a short contract after this year.

Take it for what it's worth.

I'm not saying he won't, I'm just saying Berger's article says he's "expected" to sign another deal...

I'd say there's a 50-50 shot either way, but I wouldn't expect it necessarily. For Kobe, I think he's going to sign a 1 year deal with a player option for the 2nd. He wants another chance at a ring and he knows he'll need time to try to come back from this injury.

I just hope if he does resign, it's on the cheap. Not mini-MLE cheap, but like 7-8 million.

I'm thinking along the lines what Duncan is getting, maybe a mil more than Duncan.

I think Kobe will play 2-3 more years, he probably feels the injury cheated him out of a playoff run...having said that who knows what kind of player he will be. My guess is he'll be the 2010/2011 version of himself, he could barely elevate & he was strictly a jumpshooter although he'd have an explosive dunk here and there (like the ones over Okafor and Landry), There wasn't a whole lot of pop/explosion in his step that year.

I'd hope for even cheaper (although I know that's not reasonable).

Unless it's only a ONE year deal, then I don't look forward to him re-signing. We need the money in order to move on and build around Howard/the next max contract.

Kobe really needs to take a huge pay cut if he wants to continue playing. And you know how much I love Kobe. He's earned every cent so far... but we need to move forward, which will be difficult if we have to offer him another huge contract. And let's be honest: Kobe is very, very rich. Unlike many former NBA players, he knows how to invest his money. If he wants to come back, I'm all for it, but it will have to be in a different role, for less money. How does 7 million per year sound, on a short contract?

Kobe will get more than 7 million a year upon his return. Dude sells tickets and jerseys and lots of 'em.

Had not read that. :man10: Watch out Phil.... what goes around comes around. :man1:

Just kidding, I think he and Phil are tight and he would enjoy playing for Phil again almost as much as Mike Brown or Dan Tony.

Kobe might accept a " cheap" contract with another season of frustration in 2013-2014 but I'll believe it when I see it

I will be very surprised if he accepts less than 15 millions a year though

Kobe writing a book? Yes ma'am **rubs hands together** I'll actually buy his book because it's a lot resting on that man's shoulders I'm sure he wants to get off.

I hate to say this, but I'm kind of thinking that in a weird, weird way (and maybe I'm just trying to think positively about the situation) this whole injury deal could be sort of a blessing in disguise. What I mean by that, is a couple things....

1) The injury will force Kobe to accept a more transitional and reduced role. Kobe has carried this franchise for so long, and I'm not suggesting that now he should be a 15 PPG guy, but just, maybe the injury will make Kobe realize how to play effectively, in a more reduced capacity than he had been doing previously. He's always been the guy who would take it upon himself to get the job done if the team wasn't but he will have to start to teach them how to get it done.

2) I think this injury might even keep Kobe in the league longer. A) Because he has to work harder and longer to get back to whatever his 100% mark will be. Then B) if the injury means he won't ever be able to be more than 75% of what he has been, then, he might be able to accept that more as a result of the injury than he'd be willing to because of age. If that makes sense.

Read the replies of that tweet and you'll see how many gullible people there are who don't get a joke, but my favorite is this one:

3peat is in their eyes.

Yet as I watched him Monday, I could not help think how little it mattered and how right he is. He is not fading into the shadows. He does not know how to go out that way.[.]
