To put _ _ _ _ _ _ _ name in the same sentence with Kobe is a disgrace to basketball... He will never approach Kobe's level ever... it is so ridicules I can't even laugh about it.

disrespectful to put john wall above him on espn's list and behind harden. harden is good dont get me wrong but hes not better than kobe bryant even with kobe bein 35. kind of crazy that kobe is the best at 35 but hes kobe and no way is harden better than him let alone a lot of the 25 players ranked ahead of him in that list too

I don't have an issue with GM's ranking Harden over Kobe simply because Kobe had a terrible injury. Watching Around the Horn right now and there's some major doubting and disrespecting going on. Pablo Torre is obviously a stat sheet guy and said both Harden and Paul George are better than Kobe. Miami homer Israel Gutierrez said Harden is better AND Wade surpassed Kobe a few years ago. That's news to me, when was this, when Wade was occasionally second fiddle on a title team and Kobe was carrying crappy teams to the playoffs in the West by himself again? The worst of all was Tim Cowlishaw though, he said, there are 3 or 4 SGs better than Kobe, those listed so far by the others, and Monte Ellis. :man11: Can any of these sports writers not be homers other that LA writers who seemingly can't stand the Lakers? Oh well, more fuel for Kobe, if he even knows who these guys are.

NBA is trying hard to hype Houston as an elite team. To me that's proof that there are no truly great teams in the West now, when they have to fabricate a super team by overhype.

It's funny to me how now that Kobe is injured all these media Kobe haters started popping out & straight out disrespecting him more than ever! These are the things they've always wanted to say & now they can use the "Because Kobe is injured" excuse, keep fueling him though...it's not like he hasn't proved you wrong before...

Cutting and explosion will be last. That's what I've been saying. There was NO WAY he was coming back in three weeks when he said that. No way. Maybe for him to start feeling like a basketball player again, it'd take 3 weeks. Maybe for him to feel like he could handle running back and forth in a game for 30 minutes (although he'd be wrong).

Trusting your Achilles enough to sprint, stop on a dime, and sprint back is ENORMOUS. It's going to take a lot to get there.

@EricPincus: Kobe Bryant just said anyone who thinks he's 25th best player in the world needs drug testing

@LakersReporter: Kobe said he has “scaled back” from increased workouts in China to try and let the Achilles calm down a bit, “loosen up.” It’s still tight.

@LakersReporter: * @kobebryant quipped that the “1225” as his profile pic has nothing to do with the @ESPN rank: “It’s my pet’s birthday.”

@LakersReporter: I know you’re shocked, but Bryant doesn’t agree w/t rank. Said it’s “silly,” but he accepts the challenge.” Believes he’ll overcome injury.

@LakersReporter: Bryant on not doing much of anything: “It’s tough (to hold back).” What is he doing? Set shooting and running, but no sprinting.

@mcten: What level of basketball can we expect from Kobe Bryant this season? Kobe: "I think I’ll play like my normal self."

There we go, some minor updates on Kobe, there seems to be no huge progress, no big deal. I also have to agree that having him ranked 25th is silly, I'm not sure there are 24 guys I put ahead of Kobe, even on one leg.

Why is a player that can't play for a while even ranked?.... because it's time to start anything to get discussions started. ESPN has reduced the analysis of basket ball to "Fantasy Stats" and uhuh..... no he ain't discussions.

There will be more attempts at clicks and eyeball at dizzying rates as the NBA partners gauge ratings for charging advertisers during the season.

As for Kobe's injury. This injury type has limited people in their twenties significantly. It typically takes 7 to 8 months or so to fully recover. Even then it typically isn't 100% of the pre-injury capability. He's had a newer procedure and he's dedicated beyond belief but tissues are tissues and tendons are tendons. I'm hoping he can come back before Christmas or earlier and be "Kobe" again before Valentines Day but reality might be different. He may not play back to backs for a while and have to ease back in so as to not risk re-injury or related injury.

Listening to ESPN for accurate, unbiased and thoughtful insight is like picking up the national inquirer for your international news. ESPN lost their credibility IMO a long, long time ago so really what they say, their lists or any of their stat driven reasoning hold very little water. Stats only mean something to someone who is qualified to actually read them...without that they are just numbers easily manipulated to make or discredit opinions to people who don't know better.

Chris Douglas-Roberts shares a story about practicing with Kobe Bryant

Chris Douglas-Roberts has been a fringe NBA player for the last couple of seasons that has been in and out of camp with the Los Angeles Lakers.

CDR is struggling to find a home on an NBA roster largely due to his jack-of-all-trades, master of none skill set, combined with a physical frame that simply does not scream professional athlete.

But given his time around one of the league’s most legendary franchises, the man has stories. Including this one, which he posted to his Instagram account regarding a practice duel he took part in with the great Kobe Bryant.

A lot of ppl wondered why Bean spoke so highly of me last yr. First day of camp Mike Brown tried to throw me in the fire right away. Made me & Bean 1 on 1 partners for the whole first practice. What Mike Brown didn’t know is that’s what I was waiting for. That whole day we went head up. At one point it damn near came to blows bc Bean will do anything for an edge. So he was elbowing me on the low for separation & I couldn’t let that go as a competitor. As a man. The refs were too scared to call the foul bc he was intimidating them all practice. But at then end it was all love. The respect is mutual. Gave me some pointers that are priceless. It’s a misconception on Bean. Ppl think he’s a sucker…hard to play with. It’s just that he expects the most of his teammates bc he works so hard. Easily realist hooper I’ve met. He never lies and I respect that. #ClosestThingtoJordan #HeNeverSleepsEither#ImOut

The work ethic is obviously there, or CDR wouldn’t keep being invited to play in Summer League or practices with NBA teams. (He was most recently in camp with the Knicks before being waived on Friday.)

The tale of his tangle with Bryant is interesting, if only to note how he supposedly didn’t back down, and how Bryant will bring maximum intensity to anyone that steps to him on the court — even a non-rostered player during a team practice session.

So how much is Kobe going to get on his extension? Realistically this contract could be the make or break moment for the next few seasons. Kobe can't be paid as a number 1 option anymore because the Lakers need money to go find a new superstar. Obviously ideally both Kobe and Gasol would take the minimum for 1 year to that the Lakers would have room to go out and sign a couple of big time players next summer, but I don't see that happening. The franchise is in such a tough spot...can't lose Kobe, but if they pay him anything more than 10 mil per it's going to be really tough to build a winner around him (without something crazy happening, like winning the lottery in the offseason).

It's a very scary time right now...Lakers look to be a treadmill team right now, not good enough to make any noise but good enough to prevent them from landing a top pick in the draft. If they overpay Kobe we are going to be in for a number lean, lean years.
