For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Props indeed. Without Kobe having one of his best seasons overall and carrying the team throughout this season from hell, we'd probably be like the Mavs right now.

With all due respect to the other playoff teams, being able to avoid the Clippers and OKC for the first and second rounds is huge. The what-ifs are already creeping into my mind.

Speaking of Mavs this is the first postseason that won't have Kobe or Dirk since 1996

I wonder how the media would treat Kobe had he shot 8 for 25 with 3 assists and 6 turnovers in a loss like Harden did last night. Frontcourt HOU starters were 25 for 31 from the field

This is a win/win for the media in my opinion especially if the Lakers make it far in the playoffs. Why? Because they will be able to run all the "whose team", "should Kobe pass the torch to Dwight" and things of that nature stories all year long.

So stoked about it, too! He gave it his all to get us as close as possible and the rest of the team, especially Gasol, Dwight and Blake, got us over the hump with a couple incredibly gritty wins.

We are in! I'm very happy and relieved about that. And who knows what'll happen? At least we got our best possible seeding and the Spurs are beat up as well. We've got a shot.

If we didn't make it in...all of Kobe's hard work would have gone in vain. He makes a ridiculous amount of money, but lets not ignore that he doesn't sit on all that guaranteed money and grow fat with content.

The man continues to earn his pay and believe it or not, we do have a 3rd coach on the payroll.

Kobe essentially rerouted us into the playoffs. Everybody keeps saying that they can barely see MDA's offense as the season progressed. Yep an adjustment was made alright....Kobe essentially said, put it all on me and lets go to what has worked in the past.

The sad thing is, he really didn't even have to take on such a tremendous work load.

Coach Bryant strikes again

Melissa Rohlin of the LA TIMES wrote:Kobe Bryant is sidelined after sustaining a torn left Achilles' tendon, the workaholic confined to his bed to watch games on television after 17 years of going full bore.

Is Bryant using this time to relax, to take a break? Quite the contrary.

In each of the two games he has missed, Sunday against San Antonio and Wednesday against Houston, Bryant has either sent texts or called players during the game.

In Sunday's win over the Spurs, Bryant called Lakers trainer Gary Vitti during halftime and asked to speak with Gasol. He told the forward to stay aggressive despite his struggles in the first half.

Then on Wednesday, Bryant once again reached out to his teammates.

Said Gasol: "I didn't look at my phone [during the game], but I just saw a few messages that he sent to a few of us."

In the messages, Bryant offered advice on how the team could improve its unproductive first half, a period in which the Lakers shot only 33.3% from the field.

Here's Gasol's description of what Kobe wrote:

"We had to bait their defense and try to hit the post, allow the double team to come and then kick it out to the shooters and open the defense up. That's what we did better in the second half, and that's what Kobe suggested. Very smart."

After making those adjustments, the Lakers increased their offensive productivity by nearly 10%, shooting 42.4% from the field to take a lead into the final seconds before Chandler Parsons' desperation three-pointer tied the game at the buzzer, sending it to overtime.

The Lakers went on to win, 99-95, to secure the seventh seed in the Western Conference playoffs. They will face San Antonio in the first round, which begins Sunday on the road.

Said Gasol: "The spirit of Mamba is with us at all times."

Kobe for coach of the month. :man1: :man10:

And I'm only half joking, because almost everything Kobe picked up he learned from Phil, and I wouldn't be surprised if his teammates respect him more than our coach.

another 1-2 weeks. Another reason why I am rooting for us to advance because if we do than there is a chance we can get Kobe on the sidelines at least for home games.

And then if someone gets hurt while having to shoot FTs, Kobe can come in and knock 'em down.

We celebrate 12 years of marriage today. This pic is the day I asked @ladyvb24 for her number 11/28/99. Thru the ups and downs she has been my love and best friend. 20 and 17 yrs old when we met, we have actually grown up together. A true honor and a blessing. Ti Amo Queen Mamba :-)

Got a few more visitors today.. Jimmy B, Mitch K and Mike D. We talked about the season, next season and more importantly about the strategy for this upcoming series #lakerfam #amnestywho?? Lol #coachvino http://instagram.com/p/YTgnA1xNgT/

Yet as I watched him Monday, I could not help think how little it mattered and how right he is. He is not fading into the shadows. He does not know how to go out that way.[.]
