Kobe Discussion: Shutting it down; Puts Lakers FO on blast

I've watched pretty much every NBA game he's played in and he still continues leaves me speechless. Words simply cannot describe the way he played this evening.

It's Kobe. What else is there to say? One of the greatest to ever play the game.

I don't understand how Kobe continues to amaze me when I think I've seen it all before. The fallaway banker on Lee, the 'I was gonna pass but I'll shoot at the last second' shot in the lane, the fake shot and spin the other way that had Spike Lee out of his seat, just incredible.

There is no better player in the NBA than Kobe Bryant, there just isn't. You can talk about LeBron all you want, and sure he and maybe some others are comparable in this league to Kobe, but there is nobody BETTER than Kobe Bryant. And even though you don't really want to see your best player take a ton of shots and stuff, every once in a while I'm not gonna get mad at Kobe looking to get his, he only really does it like this once or twice a year.

Lol i'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I left my class and got back by halftime. Kobe was amazing tonight. 61 points, 19-31, and 20-20 FT line. Damn..

on a side note-

when John Ireland told Kobe he broke the MSG building scoring record he was very, very happy. I haven't seen him sound that happy in a while.

This guy might be good.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Ha, I had a different interpretation of that, to me it sounded like bad acting. "Really? Wow", lol he sounded like he was just faking right there, I had to think he knew that MJ had scored 55 for sure and he seemed to be gunning for 60 and then Phil took him out, I thought they both knew the record.

I'm not bashing Kobe at all if you took it that way, I was laughing. I was like "come on Kobe, you don't gotta fake the humility for the camera you knew you were balling", but then maybe he didn't know that 60 was the record and he was just gunning for MJ's 55 and everything after that was gravy.

February 2nd 2009

61 at MSG

I'll never forget it. Legendary.

Slava laughed at the suggestion his skills might be affected by the down time. "Are you kidding?" he said. "Basketball is like ball. It's all a circle."

That box score is reminiscent of the good ol days of Kobe and the scrubs.

Anyways...every thread on CL should be a Kobe Bryant Appreciation Thread because the extent to which this guy is taken for granted is ridiculous. Where would this franchise be without him?

its sad when im not that impressed by 61 points by kobe anymore. i expected him to come out big tonight. i was talking to my friend before the game and i told him kobe was gonna go for 60, maybe even 70. sure enough he delivered.

Thinking that far ahead means you won't enjoy moments like this as much as you should right now. Dude has 7+ years left, all hail kobe

Evil Dark Jedi Kobe = my kinda Kobe.

Nothing and nobody in this league even approaches him in the "fun to watch him completely obliterate the other team" factor.

Goody goody, wanna be your friend Kobe = I'll take him, but it isn't the same. I still feel the hate....and I know deep down inside, so does he.
