Laker, Hawks trade possibilities

Postby zetaw00d on Sun Jun 15, 2003 8:21 pm

Its funny, if you look at what terry makes. He is in the last year of his contract. So i think he will be asking for at least 7+ mil a year.
Jason Terry $2,153,934 signed through 2002-03.

So if you think about it, if he ask for 9+mil a year the lakers will not be able to afford him!!!

All these hawks trade rumor would have worked last season!! Terry is in the last year of his contract!!

Theo Ratliff $9,375,000 2004-05
Jason Terry $2,153,934 2002-03

So the lakers will not be able to trade for these 2 players if Terry signs a big contract!!! There are no Lakers that can match these salaries. No one else on the the lakers makes more then 6 mil besides the big 2!!!

Shaquille O'Neal $23,571,000 2005-06
Kobe Bryant $12,375,000 2004-05
Robert Horry $5,300,000 2003-04
Rick Fox $4,170,000 2004-05
Derek Fisher $3,000,000 2005-06
Samaki Walker $1,540,000 2002-03
Devean George $4,445,000 2002-03
Mark Madsen $817,000 2003-04
Tracy Murray $3,740,000 2002-03
Brian Shaw $1,030,000 2002-03
Kareem Rush $1,019,554 2002-06
Jannero Pargo $587,435 2002-04
Stanislav Medvedenko $1,000,000 2003-04

it's funny how Shaq makes twice as much as Kobe when Kobe works twice as HARD as Shaq... just a thought...

OK, so we need 11.4 million dollars worth of contract money to trade....How about his trade...

Fox, an option extended Horry (9.4 mil), Madsen (minimum) Pargo (extended option minimum) and Rush, that is 11.4 mil...

Then we sign Howard and Posey. We can give Terry and Ratliff all the $$$$ they can fit in Guatamala after they are under contract because the cap only pertains to ADDING players, which is how teams like Sacto and Dallas keep their starts. Buss will have to open his wallet though....that isn't a guarantee and if that does not happen we will win 1 ring and be back here again next season...

We draft the Travis Twins (Hansen and Outlaw) and here is our roster in this example:

PG: Jason Terry / Derek Fisher
SG: Kobe Bryant / Travis Hansen
SF: James Posey / Devean George
PF: Juwan Howard / Theo Ratliff / Travis Outlaw
C: Shaquille O'neal / Stanislav Medvedenko

hahhaah your funny!!!

Who in their right mind would sign horry to a 9.4 mil deal!?!?!?!?

Howard would be sign for 4.5mil and terry is goin to ask for at least 6+mil and Ratiff is will be making more then 10. Now Posey is making $1,723,606 through 2002-03 which he is also free agent. So he would asking for at least 4.5mil and the Lakers cannot do that!!! Lakers cannot afford any other good players. They will be lucky to get 2 good free agents. Mark my words, I doubt that there will be a deal like that!!

PG: Jason Terry (4-7mil) / Derek Fisher (3mil)
SG: Kobe Bryant (13mil) / Travis Hansen
SF: James Posey (4.5mil) / Devean George (4.5mil)
PF: Juwan Howard( (4.5mil) / Theo Ratliff(10mil) / Travis Outlaw
C: Shaquille O'neal (24mil) / Stanislav Medvedenko

This line up will never happen!!! Sorry, I would love that line up but i have to be realistic!

63.5mil just with KB, Fish, Posey, George, Howard, ratliff and shaq!!!

zetawood you must remember that the Hawks have said that they want to get ripped off in the trading department so that they can get small contracts that will give them cap room. maybe they'll help us out to make the trades. if they sign terry and ratliff for less and swing a sign and trade with us the deal is still achievable. Sign Ratliff to 1/2 what he is making and terry to about 2 mil. that woud give us a 7 mil target to reach. Then we could say goodbye to

Samaki Walker $1,540,000
Mark Madsen $ 817,000
Tracy Murray $3,740,000
Kareem Rush $1,019,554

Grand total $7,116,554

The trade is done

by the way i realise that this is just a dream, but it could happen

Thats if Terry is stupid enough to sign for less then he is worth!!! Ratliff may go down to 5-7mil range, but if any other team will sign them for a lot more then i think they will take that. I pretty sure they want money now and a ring later!!!!

Our option on Horry is 5.3 million, and combined with Fox's 4.1 makes 9.4, does it not? You misunderstood my language there...

also, when you consider that we inherit both Theo and Terry's contracts, then you realize we can extend if we want, for as much as we please and we only have to worry about the LT, the SC can't touch or affect players UNDER CONTRACT, just ones that we want to bring in.

Posey may WANT the 4.5 million dollar exception, but with only a handful of teams below the cap, the glut of talented free agents in the market and the very talented draft class, he will be (according to sources like ESPN) in the LLE range and last I checked, that is right up our alley...

Then you consider that all we need to make it happen now is Juwan @ the MLE (he already said he wants in) and we have the team we want....I agree with you though, we will probably wind up being screwed and have to rebuild with minimum scraps...but I at least hold out hope and see more realism than might exist....

Well, I say we tell Posey, Terry and Howard that the Triangle is an equal opportunity offense and that they should each be able to get 12-15 points a game and if you combine that with Shaq's 28 and Kobe's 32, we would be scoring a low average (starting team only) of 96 points and a high average (starting team only) of 105 points...pretty solid...we would only need our bench for rest and garbage time mostly, but we would have Devean, Rick (when he got healthy) D-Fish, Ratliff, Medvedenko, Hansen, and outlaw...That is a dream come true type team and that is why I fell we will wind up being screwed and have to sign lesser names, not enough shots to go around when one considers egos...

Yeah, I bet Atlanta would take Madsen, Pargo and Rush for Terry...and that works cap wise as well...hmm....sign Howard and trade for Terry....not a bad idea, this way Slava gets to be the back up Power Forward as well...but I still prefer having Theo's 3.2 blocks per game on our team...

The only question you have to ask is!!! Will Dr. Jerry Buss pan out the money!!! He is known for a tight pocket. I have been a Laker fan since i was seven and that was in 84' and i dont think he will want to be deep over the cap. The Lakers just might pick up GP or Howard. Those sound more realistic then anything else. Everyone knows that no one will help the Lakers.

but remember the hawks will be helping themselves by helping the lakers. do they really want terry and ratliff to walk. if we do a sign and trade they get some compensation.

Well the Lakers are not the only teams that will offer a deal. There are other teams that will have better offers!!

Other teams will offer more, but the Hawks want expiring contracts with [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] players so they can justify a total house cleaning and revamping of the roster...I agree with that philosophy. Remember that they got the Big Dog in a trade and that didn't pan out, why would they want to do that again when they could get a young project (in Rush) that they can mold and two or three expiring contract mos they can dump in favor of the draft...I think, if we want to do it, they will be receptive to our advances...they may have even offered the trade last year to entice us to try it this year, because every expert and Laker press agent was saying we would make no trade, we might have agreed with them last season that, if we needed to, we would do it this season...who knows for sure and I sure as HELL want at least Terry, and Ratliff if possible...

In order to do a sign and trade with Atlanta for our expiring contracts, that trade would have to be made before July 1st. Once July 1st hit Horry, Walker, Madsen, Shaw, and Murray are no longer property of the Lakers. So if they don't do it by then it won't happen.

agreed, if we can talk to them and do the organising before July 4th we atleast know what we have to do to get it done. It also gives us a chance to resign the guys we want to trade.

Which of the point guards(Ex. Gary Payton) or power forwards (ex. P.J. Brown) would have the least rouble of adapting to the Triangle in a period of time which only includes training camp? and which would fit the best with little knowledge of the offense? :freak2:

i just read my post. i meant 1st July. as for knowing what to do surely we would want to know that the deal is all go before we resign Walker and Murray - we don't want to end up getting screwed and have these guys on our team again next season.
