Lakers add Bernie Bickerstaff as an Assistant Coach

Brown really runs his staff like a NFL coach

Head Coach- Brown
Lead Assistant- Chuck Person (seems to be that way from how he hollars from the bench)
Offensive Coordinator- Eddie Jordan
2nd Offensive Coordinator- John Kuester
Defensive Specialist- Steve Clifford
Players Coach/Motivator- Bernie Bickerstaff

reading the quotes of those players, it seems like he may be exactly what we were missing last year... a guy who could bring that sense of calm, something Brown clearly does not. I'm curious to see how/what Kuester's role is since last year he was the main guy drawing up plays... with Jordan and Nash on board, don't see where he fits.

But I must say, I really like our staff. Not a fan of Kuester, but meh, I guess he's buried under the others.

If it is Phil at Head Coach, with this staff and this lineup, it might justify the 70-win talks.

With Nash on the floor, a monkey could be the coach and they would score.

There are two teams that play in the Staples Center:
the LA Lakers and NBA Clippers.

Not quite. I refer you to the Terry Porter debacle at the Suns. Somebody described Nash in that offense looking like a hummingbird in a plastic bag. When Porter was fired, Gentry took over and reinstituted most of the D'Antoni plays. Big difference. Gentry subsequently coached that team into the 2010 WCF against the Lakers.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I like this hire a lot. Bickerstaff is a legit head coach in this league, whereas Brown still seems to me best suited as an assistant defensive coach somewhere. This helps us even with Brown as head coach, and then if he isn't able to get us over the hump we have a plan B with a capable head coach right in the wings. Good stuff.

Didn't read the whole article JSM posted, but of the bold stuff I like this the best
Said guard Tim Legler: "He's a guy that never allows us to get content. With Bernie we don't get too high after wins, and we don't get too low after losses. He's very good at the task at hand. I think we felt before that we had so much talent, that everything would just fall into place. He's made us realize there's so much more to that in this league."

Thanks for quoting that part as I missed that link JSM posted. This makes me feel really good and that much better about the Bernie hire. Reading that quote make me think of Tex Winter in how he was never satisfied by anything Kobe, Shaq, or the team as a whole did. He always found something we can fix.

If you're my age, as a Laker fan you should hate Bickerstaff. I hear Bickerstaff and see Xman choking Wes Mathews. Bickerstaff, McMillan, McKey, Xman, Ellis, Polynice, hate 'em all.

Even hated triple Threatt, but he kind of grew on me after a couple years as a Laker.
