Lakers' Dwight Howard trying to play through pain

Hey all,

Lakers' Dwight Howard trying to play through pain
http://www.latimes.com/sports/basketbal ... 1337.story

Basically Howard needs surgery if he wants to have a truly healthy shoulder – but that knocks him out 6 months – so he’s hoping to get it healthy enough to survive the season, rest it over the summer – and just live with it for the rest of his career.

Lakers pull away in fourth quarter for victory over Thunder (105-96)

I wonder if Kobe will stay on course here – can’t really play any better than he has the last two games, despite lower scoring totals. But that’s an entry to come.

Also – my preview in which I write that I think the Thunder will win:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/lakersnow ... 7305.story

This makes it the first time I’ve predicted loss that led to win – I’ve been wrong 7 times this year – all on win-predictions that led to losses.

Thanks!
Eric

I'm not sure it's the bright thing for the Lakers to re-sign him to a max deal knowing that the shoulder might bother him through out his career. If the Lakers know they can add someone like Lamarcus Aldridge or Cousions then they might have to risk the fact that it's a good idea to loss Dwight Howard and add 2 stars on the team... which is what the Lakers brass will talk about over the summer.

Same injury Odom played through a few years ago. He needed surgery and was in good shape by the next year. No reason to think Howard can't be.

I don't know if it was bothering him much today but he wasn't real active after the first quarter, especially on offense. He was adequate today but Pau picked it up for him.

It's probably not fair to compare players with similar injuries and how they responded. The extent of an injury is different on a persons body and a lot of things can factor in.

It would be unfair, for example, for us to expect every player to recover like Adrian Peterson did from his knee surgeries.

I hope Dwight is able to recover though, it's a big blow right when we get some momentum. I think he knows if he did sit, everyone would turn on him again and it would be a nightmare.

I don't think this is a very serious injury, but he should somehow "survive" this season and maybe get the surgery in the offseason. I don't remember how long it took Lamar to fully recover after the surgery. But it definitely wasn't 6 months.

6 months is definitely a long road to recovery so I understand why he may not want to go that route. So it's really something that can't heal without surgery? A bit scary considering we'll most likely offer him the max this off season.

I'm glad he's playing through it. I don't see us winning a chip with Pau at C.

Well, if the cartilage is not attached to the bone... probably not.

This wouldn't be horrible surgery like the back. He could conceivably to leg work after this surgery and get in shape.

But ideally he'd avoid it and be able to lift and get big again and get in shape again so he can throw people around again
