Can't D12 sign with the Nets for a one year deal at the lower max. Then re-up for the higher max after that?

Sure if he's willing to sign for 3 million or something. Take that chance of injurying himself again.

^^None of this precludes him from playing the "I'll hold my breath until I'm traded" card again however.....

The Lakers would be in Orlando's position of last year.... lose him for nothing or take what you can get....

I'm not totally certain... But doesn't D12 stand to make the most money either staying in LA or in a sign & trade?

we will have a clean sheet in 2014. So we have every chance to go after whoever we want. Do I want D12 to leave? hell no but if it happens, I wouldn't be desperate either.

Not up to snuff on the FA rules and all. The 3 mill, is that assuming that the Nets don't make a trade to clear cap space? If they do clear cap space, can't they offer him the lesser max rather than the full max we can give him?

So Nets, clear cap space. Sign D12 for the lower max for a year. Then D12 re-ups with the NETS and gets what we could have originally given him?

Do you know the numbers if he signed here versus another team?

It's good to have Dwight. He's either going to be patient and wait until 2014 to have an awesome team built around him (and LeBron James :man1: ) -- or he will be traded. And man, he can be traded for good, young players and picks easily.

I would not call myself a victim of the James dream. No LeBron? Fine. He's not the only star player in the game you can pair with Dwight.

Why not?

I may be missing something though. Lets start a list of positive things he wants to stay here for (without guessing at what he's thinking):

1. More money
2. ...

Ok I'm out. Little help? Thinking about it from the standpoint of Dwight being selfish and looking for the best situation for HIM, what do we have here that makes him want to stay?

I don't know why people keep bringing up the money.. Dwight's camp was telling Houston & other teams that wanted to trade for him that he'd walk & lose the money. He might be bluffing but let's not pretend he's the most logical decision maker based on what we know so far.

Assuming things continue to go badly & management feels we NEED to trade D12, with Brooklyn & Dallas seeming like the only possible destinations where he'd re-sign based on his list from last season, should we try to get Dirk + pieces? I know we have to keep an eye on the future too, but with Love out for the season, would Dirk help us win now more than Love? Obviously our defense would get even worse than it is now, but it doesn't seem like that's going to change regardless with D'antoni. Dirk & Pau should work together. I'm sure this sounds crazy but if the team chemistry came together, I think we could actually improve defensively. Phil made Odom-Pau work for 2 rings without much help from Bynum come playoff time.

All he needs to do is look at Bynum, look at what he passed up on and where he is? Nobody is gonna pay him the max this upcoming summer. Does Howard want to get into a situation like that?

He stands to lose at least 20 million in guaranteed contract money. He can sign a max deal elsewhere worth less over a shorter period of time.

Not to mention endorsements, etc. from being in LA.

Plenty of teams will pay him the max if given the chance. Take off your Laker glasses.

Dwight never wanted to be here and the team is a mess. Why would he stay?

Name the teams that will pay him the maximum that have greater chances of winning and greater chances of making more money.

Name 3. I dare you.

More money? Maybe not. We could debate, but that's a complex conversation that assumes salary cap numbers we dont have yet (because teams can still move people).

As for better chance of winning?? Last I checked we were 12th in the west and still would be out of PO's even in the east, so I'd say there's a MINIMUM of 16 teams that have a better chance of winning than we do.
