Lakers look to sign Lucious Harris...

Gary Trent isn't that bad. He can bang down low and get some pts and boards. I don't think we need another PF though. Just one backup C and we'll be set.

we can slide Trent and Malone in together and be fine

Slava I guess. Actually our bench isn't that bad by the looks of it. We're young and our guys can learn from the best (Payton, Kobe, Malone & Shaq). We have a chance to develop them into incredibly solid players.

True but I'd feel much better if they had someone above 7-foot other than Shaq.

Let's just see how Chenowich plays out in the SPL and then we invite him to training camp w/ Leon Smith. I think we will designate our vet min. to a SG with defense and energy and AP would be perfect for that. Since Fox will open the season on the IL, Chenowich or Smith can back up Shaq and get a feel for their role before Fox comes back...if it works out, we can keep them on the roster and place Slava, Pargo, Walton, Rush, or whoever is hurt at that time on the IL. We would have a 14 man roster, with one player on the IL. This way we would address our back-up center position for cheap and get a good shooter who is not a liability on defense for only a 1 million. I believe this will be the most likely scenario...with Peeler, Jon Barry, Pike, and Veshon Lenard in the running at back up SG.

Mason can't be part of any deal now, since Payton already signed...our line up would look like this, if we had Peeler and Chenowich join:

PG) Payton, Fisher, Pargo
SG) Kobe, Peeler, Rush
SF) Devean, Walton, (Fox on IL)
PF) Malone, Slava, Cook
C) Shaq, Chenowich

We are looking at a total roster of 14 players and once Fox comes back off the IL, he will slowly work back to getting into the starting line up, moving George to the bench...our bench would have Fisher, Devean and Peeler coming off of it which is very decent. We would have to place one of the third stringers or Chenowich on the IL once Fox comes back though...but we are still three deep in every position (even C because Slava can move from PF to C)
Just imagine the line-ups that Phil can mess around with...with Rasho joining Duncan in SA, they will have two seven footers again and we can counter by sliding Malone to the SF and placing Chenowich at the PF. I'm not saying he can stop Duncan, but at least he will prevent him from going straight up over him cause Chenowich is a 7 footer himself and weighs 270. If a team goes small so can we, by sliding Kobe to the SF and putting Fisher at the PG...Our starting line-up including Fox, will be the top defensive team in the league...we got every answer to any problem an opposing team will give us.

Shaq wouldnt need a back up, if he is in shape!! Remember Sean Rooks backing up shaq! That guy didnt play much. Shaq's back up wouldnt be playing much either this year. They just need a body in there, anyone now can back up shaq!!

But Shaq would be more effective with a more stable back-up. Heaven forbid he should get hurt and we have to watch Sumi Samake.

How was he effective when he had sean rooks and elden campbell as his back up. when he had john sally the lakers won it all. if you have malone and GP in the line up with slava, kobe and fox, the lakers will be able to rest shaq for at least a quarter. That line up would do fine against any team!!!

you know who's going to be open 90% of the time?... our SF position..
The opposition will use their SF to be the double teamer which will leave either GEORGE/Walton/Fox open for an OPEN "J". Lets hope they can hit on a consistent basis.

Very true!!! If you have Kobe, GP, Malone, Shaq and a SF. Who would you double team off!!! :jam2: And if they dont double, then Shaq will see a lot of single coverage!! :jam2:
