Shawne Williams Discussion: back on a 10 day contract

Forgot about Shawne.. He joins the short list of good bigs available. It's basically him or LO in my mind.. If we're willing to use all 15 roster spots, I'd try to get both LO & Williams. With the last 2 spots going to SG/SF's. I'd like to see us get Miller & give CDR a shot..

He's like a more proven Landry to me. I'd rather have Lamar or Kenyon for sure.

If by "can't shoot" you mean "can shoot" I'd have to agree with you. He'd be a pretty good fit, and at this point it's just a camp invite. If he works out, good pick-up, if not, he goes back home after camp. Yes, there are better players out there, and a few better shooters probably, but we don't know who else is on the board for the Lakers.

Don't get ahead of yourself.... the current Lamar Odom isn't the one who used to play for us.... not even close.

The last two years:
FG%
.352
.399

FT%
.592
.476

3PT%
.252
.200

Williams is an upgrade from those stats. Combine age, weight, desire and wives and I'd take Williams...... and I don't think we should take him either.

Odom wouldn't be coming here for shooting or scoring...he still rebounds, defends (better), and can handle/pass. Williams can't do any of those. I'm not saying Odom would be good here, but he'd be better.

NBAdraft.net hyped him up badly back when he was a high schooler, but I still liked the idea of his potential after his freshman year in Memphis...and then my opinion of him dropped like a rock after several seasons in Indiana. At this point we've accumulated a wealth of data about his effectiveness on an NBA court, and suffice to say I think his game is beyond repair, as well as possibly his attitude.

Odom is done. From what I saw last year he doesn't do even those things anymore. He has lost his mental desire to play the game and if coming here would make it return he'd have signed already. He looked horrible last year.... no athleticism left at all.

I'd pass on Odom regardless of what Williams can/can't do.

How much stock do we put in the fact that his best year was the NYK run w/ MDA? Dude who "can't shoot" shot 40%+ from 3pt.

A decent amount, I think. We aren't running D'Antoni's offense in LA, even without Dwight. We still have Pau as our C, and we'll have Hill as our PF. We don't have bigs to stretch the floor, we don't have a flashy PG, and we don't have a lot of shooters.

He shot above 32% on threes in ONE of the last six seasons. Which is a better indication of what he'd do here?

There's another thread, and a few suggestions on this one, with people practically begging for his return as if he will remedy the 4 and 3 positions. He's a has been, let him be.

Lakers announce they have signed Shawne Williams. No terms available yet. He had his best NBA production w/ D'Antoni in NYK

A perfect example of a guy living off of one good year.

Take out his one fluke season and he's a 29% 3 point shooter. :hurl: :hurl: :hurl:

not only that, but man, if nobody wants to touch Beasley due to off-court issues, why would anyone go near Williams? his talent is undeniable, but the dude has never had it together.

hes an athletic younger guy to play the 4. we needed something at that spot. im not counting on him being a knockdown 3 point shooter or to spread the floor for us but he did shoot 85-212 while in NY with Dantoni. the most by far hes ever shot and made. so maybe with numbers he'll be productive from 3...but i will say he is a good signing. having some young guys who can run coming off the bench will help and give a dimension we havent had in a while.

he shoot average. prob close to his NY days just bc of the minutes and shooting opportunties under dantoni's system. we wont be running and gunning all game but the bench sure will be. and itll be closer to that system than last year with 2 7 footers instead of now only one.

Lady and Gentlemen ! As a 6'9' guy that shoot a career 34% from the 3 pts line, here is your Mike D'Antoni typical stretch 4 ! your new starting PF !

Sorry Jordan Hill.

This is likely connected to the fact Ryan Kelly's foot isn't healing.

This is the type of stuff that happens when you keep 'Antoni, you sign SF's to play PF and have 1 real PF. Whatever, I don't care if he makes the team or not, hopefully the contract isn't guaranteed.
