Lakers targeting LeBron James in 2014

Postby chingy248 on Sat Jul 06, 2013 7:11 am

Ughhh...I can't just find myself to root for him lol, but after last nite what D12 basically spitting on this franchise; I find myself disliking D12 more now

Sources tell Hoopsworld's Alex Kennedy that the Lakers will try to sign LeBron James in 2014.
The Lakers will be in a unique position as they are the NBA's most storied franchise and will have virtually no guaranteed money on the books. The contracts of Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace, Steve Blake, Jordan Hill and Jodie Meeks all expire in 2014. Steve Nash can be cut via the stretch provision and only count $3.2 million against the cap. The Lakers would have the financial flexibility to allow James to bring whomever he wanted with him to Los Angeles.

Lebron just won back to back titles, MVP and Final MVP, so why on earth would he leave? He's not coming here, stop dreaming Jim Bust

Jim Bust? Ugh.

Who knows what will happen this upcoming season? Wade looks like he's about to fall off. Bosh has been turned into a shadow of himself.

LeBron might not want to stick around over there. It might also sound weird, but he could also make even more money here as a Laker than as a Heat.

And if he gets to choose who he wants to play with, that'll be an interesting pitch. LeBron would at least entertain the idea.

And if the best player in basketball becomes available, you of course make him a pitch. Is he coming? Odds are that he won't. But he'll think about it and the Lakers can make him a great pitch/offer.

Jim Bust should do two things now to attract Lebron next year.
Amnest Kobe, his time is past.
Use the stretch provision to get rid of Steve Nash.
Try to trade Gosoft
Nest year no contract in the book 0.

...Okay.

The first one isn't happening. The second and third ones probably are. If you read the article, the Lakers are still responsible for 3.2 million against the cap for Nash so it's not 0.

We've bee hearing that all year though, so it's nothing new. Don't think we have a shot at him anyway, can't see him leaving Maim. They have Riley, as soon as wade is too old riley will just other stars next to him.

I blame the Spurs more than anything else for Lebron not coming to the Lakers if he remains Miami heat.

LeBron isn't coming to the Lakers. He is trying to REPAIR his image, not further tarnish it just when it is improving again. He'll either stay in Miami or go back to Cleveland and play with Kyrie Irving and co.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

Keep Nash. Let him retire with a ring next season.

Not happening .. I wonder who we are going to overpay during next summer ... I think Melo ( bad move ) is the most likely player to opt out and come here to play with his buddy Kobe ... the probability is still low

Lebron is not coming to this mess. Not even Melo with MDA around. Jim Bust the Dunce just lost a top 5 big name free agent to a second tier franchise so its safe to say his people don't know anything when it comes to making "pitches".

This can happen if:
Miami gets knocked out in round 2
Wade is done
James gets upset that Griffin and Kobe have more national endorsements than he
Bosh opts out to go try be a #1 somewhere
James gets talked into trying Hollywood
Phil is the loudest voice in the LA front office
JimB isremoved from any authority
And...Riley unexpectedly goes the route of Dr Buss and Chick into the heaven basketball HOF

If all these happen then there's a 50/50 chance with Cleveland to get him.

Exactly. :man10:

I think LA and NY are the only cities that don't necessarily have to worry about the money angle. ANYONE who will be the face of the Lakers will make more money than they will somewhere else. The endorsements, the business opportunities, they're greater here than anywhere besides New York.

The main question will be "who else?"

As the time draws near, we'll attract a few other players and hopefully we'll look like a really great destination with some really great potential. Then throw in LeBron and we'll look like a Championship squad.

It's worth a shot at least.

LeBron would never sully his rep like that. The LAST thing he wants to do is come to a team with even MORE pressure and hate than the Heat. NOT HAPPENING.

We'll resign Ryan Kelly to a max contract by them. He'll just need his wingman

Can't imagine what would happen in Lakerland if we whiff on Lebron. Yikes. Lord knows no way in hell we are tanking this upcoming season.

I hope they don't put all their eggs in one basket because I think Dwight Howard has a better chance of coming back than of James coming here.

It's just a cover story. The Lakers are looking to rebuild. But instead of just saying "we're rebuilding after this season", they tell Laker fans through the media that they want Lebron in 2014.

Not happening. LeBron just won back-to-back rings and he has already been through the mess of leaving once.

If Wade and Bosh break-down and are horrible, I guess I could see it? Lebron could get Melo and we could absorb a big contract (Love? Rondo?) for draft picks. Crazier things have happened. But Lebron kind of seems like Dwight in that he wouldn't want the pressure of being a Laker.

All NBA teams will try to sign him. We couldn't keep Howard but will convince Bron to join us? :man10: :man3: Jim and our FO are freakin funny... good for them.
