Lakers Time Warner Deal Poll Question

Postby methodxs on Sun Jul 15, 2012 3:12 pm

Hey fellas. I'm currently doing a field study at USC about the new Lakers' Time Warner Deal and I was hoping you guys would help me out by answering the following poll question.

Assuming your current cable provider does not purchase the rights to the new Laker TV Network from Time Warner, will you continue to use your current cable provider or switch over to a different provider that will offer the new Laker Network?

This is part of a bigger research project that I am doing and will hopefully influence local cable providers so your participation is much appreciated! Thank you all.

I have Time Warner, hopefully it doesn't require a high tier.

If you live in the LA market, League Pass will black out Laker games.

All providers should have the network though, and it will be subsidized by all subscribers in their cable/satellite bills.

I watch TV so rarely now that it's not worth paying for cable or satellite. In recent years, I only got it for the Laker games, but now I don't even want to pay that much. (Basic plan on Verizon FIOS cost me $60 for the TV part.) I just wish it was possible to pay a subscription fee just for the Laker games to be streamed over the net or something like that. Don't tell me to look for the bootleg streams: these are invariably low quality pictures with lousy video performance. Sure it's free but I'm willing to pay something, maybe as much as $15-$20/month for Lakers in high quality video. But I don't see that happening as TWC didn't pay the Lakers that much money not to be pushing their overall service (and the extra bucks) on us.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Although no deal has been made yet, DirecTV should ultimately carry the new Lakers Network at the expense of a higher cable bill for households.

Will you be able to watch this network if you don't live in LA? I have Time Warner here in NY.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes will be available on Digital Cable television in Southern California, Hawaii, and Clarke County Nevada. The network will be on both standard and high definition. The LA Lakers, LA Galaxy, LA Sparks, regional and state High School games, boxing and luche libre will be broadcast on these channels. There will also be pre and post game shows along with original programming and classic games. In-market Live game streaming is also set to be available on both computer and mobile devices. The projected launch date is October 1st 2012.

BTW, Stu and Bill McDonald will be back.

Have just been assuming Charter which is only "cable" in my location will pick it up. But maybe better start finding out for sure. If need be I would switch to DirectTV if only they had the TW feed. If neither I would go postal...... :mad1: :mad1: :mad1: :mad1: :mad1: :mad1:

I am sure other providers will negotiate a deal with TWC to pick up the network. They do have a month and a half to finalize.

I used to have TWC but the HD picture quality was terrible on my 46". I won't go back for that reason.

The money here basically pay for the team's payroll? 150 per year right? Laker payroll at 130 including tax.

I have U-Verse, I will not go back to TWC for just a Laker station, I'll have to find another way to watch if U-Verse doesn't carry it. TWC is like going back to basic cable coming from U-Verse, there's wayyyyy fewer HD stations, the channels are organized poorly, the menus are extremely basic, the options are more limited, just can't go back.

I think I've said this on the other TWC channel thread, but I've seen the way TWC does TV, and I don't like it. Slow(ish) internet speeds, to boot.

I'm hoping Charter cable picks up the network because it's only cable provider in my area.

Anyone know if Dish Network has it?
