Shawne Williams Discussion: back on a 10 day contract

Can there be a happy Knicks return for Shawne Williams?

According to his agent, Happy Walters, Williams will work out for the Knicks in the coming days, and a source said the workout will be Monday. The Knicks are trying to add more scoring pop to the roster at the small-forward position now that Carmelo Anthony is viewed as their power forward.

Williams, despite baggage that included multiple arrests on drug charges, prospered at the Garden in his lone season in 2010-11, when he was a threat as a 3-point shooter and an excellent defender. He likely will be available for the veteran minimum of $1.4 million.

The Knicks were disappointed Williams didn’t re-sign with the team after the 2010-11 season and jumped to the Nets.

But Williams had a lousy stint there, playing one injury-wracked season before being traded to the Trail Blazers. Williams didn’t play last season because of a foot surgery. But Hoopsworld.com reported last week Williams looked terrific in workouts at IMG Academy in Las Vegas.

Williams is friends with Amar’e Stoudemire, also represented by Walters.

“Shawne loved his time there,’’ Walters told The Post. “He’ll be the first to tell you. But it is also about where he’d get playing time.’’

The Williams camp is concerned because the Knicks found a budding young sniper in forward Chris Copeland. But he’s a free agent, and the Knicks may be unable to re-sign him because they would have to dip into their $3.1 million mini mid-level exception.

The Knicks also are competing against Mike D’Antoni’s Lakers, the Clippers and Bulls. D’Antoni, who coached Williams as a Knick, wants him back and also has scheduled a workout for him.

Shawne Williams' best year was with D'Antoni in 2011. I knew the Lakers were be interested in getting more D'Antoni guys on the team. I wonder if the Lakers are still interested in Raja Bell.

Can we get Chris Mhim instead?
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.

Idgaf about his character . He has talent unlike the bums we had on the bench last year, and that's what wins in the league.

We shied away from Kenyon, Bird, and Delonte because of character ignoring that Morris, Ebanks, Sacre, Duhon were fn bums and deaf weight that helped run kobe into the ground from carrying them

Well.. He's a long athletic SF that can hit the 3 & plays well in transition. He's not going to fix all of our problems on the bench or even at the SF position, but it'd be a decent start. Sign another guy like Wright or Morrow & a young PG. Seems like they're targeting the right type of players atleasr.

If he's past those drug issues I'd be willing to sign him. All I remember is that he was money from three while playing under MDA, and if he does well enough in the workouts to justify them offering him a contract I'd be ok with it. We can't get too picky as we have very limited options. Just look at some of the players we passed on because of "issues" in KMart, Birdman, and Nate.

Am I looking at the same guy as most others here? His best season ever he averaged 7 and 4, for his career he's about 6 and 3, I'm not seeing a whole lot of "talent" or a special player.

Sure, if he impresses in the workouts and shows signs that he can still play as well as he did under D'antoni in New York ... I guess I'd take him for the minimum as our third string SF to replace Ebanks.

Depends on the results of the workout. I like that the Lakers are doing their due diligence with him.

We're limited and not financially flexible. There's no harm in working him out. He can't be any worse then Ebanks & at times last year, Metta. So, WTS, work him out, if he does well, go forward with the process...

the guy can really play, and the fact that he's been in and out of the league says: stay away.

You mean he's not an elite shooter/lockdown defender who was a choirboy, still donating 90% of his free time to alleviating global injustice and poverty, willing to come here for the Vet Minimum (which he'll give back to management in order to bring in more talent)? Pass.

Who care if you play zero defense, if you can shoot the ball you're welcome and can play for Mike D'Antoni.

Hey just look at this guy reference apparently his best year was with D'Antoni in NYK whereby he averaged his best season 7 & 4. No wonder why Lakers are interested at him and good to see that the Lakers are doing and looking in to get more D'Antoni guys on this team to fit the system.
