Lou Amundson Meets With Lakers and Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers and Lakers were the two teams that Lou Amundson visited this week and discussions went positively with both organizations, agent Mark Bartelstein told RealGM on Friday.

Amundson had met with a couple teams last week and sat down with two more within the past few days, and the 6-foot-9 forward is continuing dialogue with interested teams in hopes of landing a deal soon.

“They were good meetings,” Bartelstein said. “I wouldn’t quite use the word frontrunner right now, but there’s interest, and hopefully we can get something done soon.”

Amundson, 30, averaged nearly two points and three rebounds a season ago and would bolster a team’s frontcourt. He has played for eight teams over a seven-year NBA career.

Another D'Antoni guy. A hustle player born in Ventura. Lakers fans, what do you guys think?

A true hustle player, strong, energetic. He could be useful.

I'd love it. Go from Hill to Amundson?

Boom.

Nice. Live how he plays the game, even at the end of the bench.

I love his game. hustle 48 mins and energy on and off the bench. having him and hill playing the 4 would be great. offense would be based on offensive rebounds but thats what we need.

I wanted to pick him up last season when Minny waived him, I would be happy if we got him now. Obviously he's no star, but it's nice to have a hustle big off the bench, he plays hard and I always want that on my team.

Chris Andersen light without the attitude and highlight blocks. Would be a good pick up.

Always liked his game. Another flat out hustle player. I hope we pick him up. Screw the paper clips. How many PF's do they need over there. Ridiculous. On our team he should get PT. We need some more rebounding. Would love to sign him.

I would think if he values playing time, we'd be a better fit than the Clips. Not a huge Amundson fan because there's no upside there, what you see is what you get.. But I'd take what he has to offer over gambling on Kelly or Harris being rotation guys.

Off the top of my head, he's a hustle player, but is awful offensively and relatively nondescript defensively--he has some surprising ability to block shots, but is just way too undersized. The hustling will get him a 6-8 year career playing 8-15 minutes a night as the 9th-10th man off someone's bench, but, eh. He's OK, but I hate what he represents--D'Antoni's smallballing.

Pretty much a Jordan Hill type player. I'll take him.

If he's only talking to us and the Clippers... the Clippers just signed Jamison. Where's the room for him?

Less playing time and on paper a possible championship team, or more time on a maybe playoff team, hmm...

Well I think it's more like NO time a possible deep playoff team or GOOD time on a possible 7-8 seed. Just minor differences, but it's something... :man10:

I'm just thinking of how it looks from his perspective. Does he want to be a hustle guy with more minutes for the minimum on a maybe playoff team, scrapping to win every game, or does he want to be a spot minutes hustle guy on a championship contender (again that's how they look on paper and probably to free agents, like Jamison). If it was really between us and the Clippers I wouldn't blame him if he went there.

Yeah I agree. I don't think he's the right player for them, but they're a popular joint right now.

he's gona get the Jordan Hill treatment if Williams makes the team, considering he's got no offense to speak of.

interesting team we would have

pau/kaman/sacre
hill/admundson/landry
young/johnson/williams
kobe/meeks
nash/blake/farmar

all of our stars are old, mixed in with a bunch of young legs looking to get some run and earn keep.

i think they'd be more fun to watch than last year.

I'd rather have Nick young come off our bench for the instant offense punch.

I like Amundson but not if we're choosing between him & Beasley.. Hopefully Beas' ability to also play at SF makes it possible for us to sign both of these guys.. Assuming Harris/Landry/Williams/Kelly? have minimal impact (only Harris has a guarantee for the entire season), we're looking at 16 MPG of Hill before we're significantly increasing his chances of injury.. I think it's highly probable that both Amundson & Beasley could make this team & be regular rotation players. Something like:

Nash/Farmar/Blake
Kobe/Young/Blake
Young/Johnson/Beasley
Hill/Beasley/Amundson
Pau/Kaman/Hill

That's a solid rotation with plenty of depth & versatile players that can play multiple positions depending on matchups & injuries.. Meeks & the rookies likely only see PT in garbage time.. We give the majority of the minutes to Kobe/Pau/Farmar/Young/Johnson/Beasley.. Limit Nash, possibly Pau, Kaman, Kobe if possible, & Hill's minutes to keep him healthy all season & have Amundson there ready to step in & take over for Hill if we need that type of hustle play or Beasley if we need offensive punch. So many options & pieces that fit. We lost a lot of star power with Dwight but anyone that doesn't think our bench got better is crazy.. We got much younger & more athletic.. Even if we only sign 1 of Amundson or Beasley I'm really looking foward to this season..
