Sasha and Farmar were solid late first round picks.

I am still surprised Caracter isn't in the league.

Forgot those two.... decent picks for where we got them.

To be fair, the Lakers have to have the worst average draft position of any team in the league in that time.

We've only had 2 lottery picks. Eddie Jones and Bynum. I'd say we're batting a thousand, despite the sample size. :man10:

No kidding. I hate it when people bag on our drafting. We've been winning championships or getting close. Our draft position has been ridiculously poor relative to other teams. It's not like we've got a Hasheem Thabeet in our past. Even some of our missed late 1st rounders have been serviceable. Farmar, Vujacic, etc.

For every late first rounder that plays, there are like 3-4 that don't ever even make it.

I include Kobe on the list despite his pick being owned by the Hornets.

I liked Farmar at the time of his pick, he just couldn't be for this team what fans/ownership wanted.

Hope we hold on to Sacre. Willing to see what Morris can offer as a backup pg, along with DJO.

I would say that Sacre looks like he has the most potential staying power, given that he has good free throw percentage, good shooting ability, is a good defender, a good rebounder, tough, long, tall, big and is coachable and learns quickly....YOU CAN'T COACH 7 FEET, AFTER ALL.

As far as TALENT...Probably between Caracter and DJO to be honest. Ebanks could still wind up being good. I disagree with some people on here who believe Ebanks squandered anything. He never really plays. Just this season, as he was starting to break out and produce somewhat consistently, we changed coaches and he fell back out of the rotation. When he has played, he has shown consistent improvement and effort. I still believe in Devin Ebanks. If we win a championship, he will play a part.

Over all, I am probably most excited about Darius Johnson-Odom. He just seems to have that crazy combination of athleticism, intensity and work ethic. He will be successful in this league. His ceiling is high, IMHO. I really hope he gets a chance with us this year. It would be a shame for us to lose a young, athletic and talented player because we weren't developing our bench or draft picks. That would suck.
The End is nigh. Time for a total Cut and Shuffle. Kobe contract was a mistake...time to avoid making more. The future is here, whether we want it to be or not. An era is over, but for the death rattle, and it's time for the cycle to begin anew. Growth and change are scary and painful, but alas...nothing worth achieving comes easily.

I can't go on anything other than what we've gotten out of them to this point on the court, so I'd say Morris is the best based on that. 41st pick and he's been a starter most of the season, a lot of poor play, yes, but also. a lot of solid play and some truly great defensive performances. He filled in for Steve Nash with Lakers fans as critics and didn't run scared for the hills, he fought through it and continues to and to work hard. After that I'd say Sacre based on value, 60th pick, serviceable backup/3rd string center. I didn't expect him to make the NBA, and now if a big of ours goes down I'm not worried about him stepping in for a while because he's a solid player. Based on potential you could say Goudelock, Caracter, DJO, and most of all Ebanks, but at the moment potential has 2 of them out of the league, one in the D-League, and one riding the pine/wildly inconsistent.

turiaf, farmar, and vujacic were all actually good picks given where they were taken. they've just struck out hard lately, and it's really hurt. they have one pick of that quality on the roster right now, and i don't think people are discussing their weak bench as much.

I'm sad about the 2013 & 2015 picks. I know we don't expect those picks to be worth anything but you never know who'll be available and I'm itching to see a young laker prospect grow & become epic.

And I really hope we hold on to Sacre. Nice backup for D12.

^ The chances of either of this picks being equal to Steve Nash are very, very slim and we'll have the cap space afterwards to go get someone effective. It was a necessary trade.

Ugh.... I forgot Rondo was picked with the Lakers pick..... :bang:

Was that the one we had to toss in to get rid of Payton?.....

I'll say Morris. I know he can have some bonehead plays but the kid plays solid Defense and has a decent stroke. I think he will be a fairly decent PG once he stops making bonehead plays. I was never high on Glock so he didn't get my nod.
For what it's worth, the Lakers also clinched the Pacific Division, an achievement Bryant dismissed by saying "We don't hang divisions." No, only the big NBA championship banners are considered wall-worthy for the Lakers.
