LQOTD: What's Clark Worth?

Postby trodgers on Sat Feb 02, 2013 10:04 am

I won't take credit for this; the question arose in another thread and LA will soon have to answer it.

What is Earl Clark worth?

I take the question to be, "What should we be willing to pay him?" You might interpret it a bit differently.

Somewhere between 2 000 000$ and 4 000 000$ (max).
He's worth some money, AND he is only getting better, dude is only 24.

3 years $10-14MM is probably what he'll seek.

We have his Bird Rights, so we can offer him the most. Unless some team goes crazy and gives him 6-8 million per year, I see us retaining him at 3-4 million per year for 2/3 years.

Going into next season we can have Meeks/Clark/Hill off the bench. That's a great start and it would make it easier on the FO to fill in pieces if we can tie up Clark early on a nice team friendly deal.

He's going to get the exact same offer that Jordan got, but only after we deal with the Dwight/Pau situations.

3.5 million per year for 2 years. Probably with an option on the 2nd (team). We'll likely trade away Gasol for some pieces and that'll give Clark a huge opportunity to be a true starter for us.

^Agreed. He'll get the same deal around Jordan Hill. He's probably around 2-4 million, though, right now.

He has the same agent as Dwight. I think teams around the league will through a lot of money at him since he's young, athletic, can defend multiple positions...he might get somewhere around 3 years $15 mil, I hope we dont spend more than $3.5 mil which is what Jordan Hill got. We may be able to get some capspace to spend on him if we trade away Blake and MWP's expirings and of course Pau's ginormous $19 mil expiring

Question for everyone here who watches Clippers basketball, would you rather have Clark or Butler?

3 years, 11-12M. In my opinion, of course.

How are those 2 comparable though? Butler plays the 3, Clark plays the 4, Clark is taller and stronger. Butler is a scorer, Clark is a hustle guy that can score. If I was choosing though honestly it would be Clark because he plays defense and hasn't so far shown to be injury prone like Butler. He's been healthy this year, but the past 5 seasons or so he's missed significant time to injury at some point in each season. I realize Butler is a proven player with years of consistent play, but we're taking right now Clark vs Butler, not Miami Butler vs Clark, then I'd take Butler of course. Boy that was quite a rant. Anyway, I also think Clark is worth Jordan Hill money.

Butler on the Wizards was quite a potent scorer, so I'm not sure... this season Butler seems to be underachieving or he just keeps chucking shots every game.

Butler is still a good player, don't get me wrong, but again I don't see how he and Clark are comparable, completely different games. Butler can score, but I like Clark's defense and hustle, Butler can't play defense to save his life, plus he's 32 now. There's a reason we have this emoticon here

Apologies real, I felt I needed to answer that question for some reason. I you look at it as comparing Clark's value to that of Butler money wise, it's not THAT far if topic though. ( ok it is, Butler makes big bucks for being a consistent career scorer and 2 time all-star, but I had to try :man10: ). But hey it's an interesting thought that Clark is giving us more overall than Butler is for the Clippers for waayyyyy less money, gotta love hustle guys.

Would love to keep him, would be a very useful player for when we make our real championship run.

2 years @ 7 mil sounds good to me

I've been saying Butler is overpaid and overrated at this point in his career for a while now. To anyone that would listen.

The one and only reason that team ticks is because of Paul and since Paul is often injured, that team gets exposed quickly. Yes, Bledsoe is a fantastic young athlete, but Chris Paul he is not.

As for value vs. value, Clark means far more to us than anything Butler provides for the Clippers. Imagine our team without Clark, then imagine their team without Butler. :man10: scary.

But yeah, way off the beaten path here... We can continue that discussion in the Clark thread.

How much do you think Clark is worth financially? :man1:

Get rid of Gasol so you can keep Clark and Hill who more than cover the PF position for the next 6 years.

maybe too early to tell, but he probably gets what jordan hill got. $9M for 3 years.

i'd go as far as $12M for 3 since he's a bit more versatile.

^^^ Why not settle for Lamarcus Aldridge as the future 4 during 2015 when we might have enough cap-room to sign him? Hill is a energy guy best suited off the bench... also someone is gonna over-pay Clark..... no doubt about it... it's gonna be up to him if he wants to stay here.

Settle for Aldridge? We'd be lucky to get him, we can't base our future on a slim maybe, rather lock up affordable quality guys now.

Yes, but if Dwight Howard leaves via FA, then we have enough cap-room to sign 2 star players especially if Gasol is traded before the TD... and to me, signing star players is more Important then obtaining quality pieces because you can always find diamonds in the rough every year in FA.. with the MMLE.
