Magic Is Going Off On Twitter

I'm actually meeting Magic this Friday at ESPN in DTLA. I'm still gathering up a few, well-thought out questions for him.
Jimmy Kimmel asking Kobe about his back pain in an interview:
KB:I actually hurt it vacuuming.
JK: do you think your back is more sensitive from carrying the Lakers all season or.. ?

What does Magic know about defense? His team gave up 112 points/gm 51% shooting and they still won the Finals in 82. He needs to STFU

Agreed to an extent. Players can only control what they can control but if there's no defensive system in place it makes it a lot harder. Also don't like the fact that we're not posting players up anymore.

Earvin Magic Johnson ‏@MagicJohnson

.@DwightHoward has to stop complaining and start dominating on offense....@PauGasol has to stop playing soft and get back to 18pts & 10rebs!
Agreed.

@KobeBryant is having a an MVP type season but the team needs him to be a better leader...@SteveNash scoring more and throwing more assists will help the @Lakers!
Kinda vague as to what he means regarding Kobe. What he said about Nash could be said about literally any player.

.@MettaWorldPeace has to stop making great quotes and start playing great defense...@JMeeks20 has to start making better shot selections.
Disagree, Metta has been playing great defense. Most of Meeks' shots are good, he's just bricking them like crazy.

The @Lakers big men have to stop giving up easy offensive rebounds...the perimeter players have to start getting back on defense to stop the fast breaks of their opponents!
Completely agreed. I don't even understand why the first one has been a problem with two skilled rebounding 7 footers starting for us and Hill coming off the bench. Getting back on defense is just something D'Antoni has to hammer home. Shouldn't be a difficult fix.

He knows a hell of a lot about winning, so I'd like to hear more of what he's got to say.

well he did tell him to be a better leader

Well, while I think he is getting way too much of the blame for this team's woes, I do think Kobe can be a better leader. Particularly when it comes to lighting a fire under Pau. One thing that is rarely discussed is how Kobe and Pau have always seemed to have a bond from minute one.

i dont think anything or anyone can light a fire under Pau...that's all on him...what kind of professional pride does one have to 'need' a fire lit under them...after sucking butt for the last 2-3 years

So that gives Gasol free reign to quit on defense and not give 100% each game?

Normally, I often disagree with Magic, although I absolutely loved him as a player.

However, I'm going to agree with at least 75% of what he had to say here. Pau, defense, having fun, better shot selection, Kobe steeping up as a leader, Metta.... yeah.

I agree with the magic man. But, but it appears these injuries are more than just something you play through during the season. A herniated disk is very serious and coming back too soon is no fun. I had one myself.

What he did as a player and what he is saying are two completely different things. Its performance versus knowledge and observation. What Magic said is fairly accurate.

Magic is my dude and of course the players should get some of the wrap for this mess.

But maybe, just maybe, some of these players don't want to go to war for D'Antoni. You know, kinda like that Michigan kid not wanting to play for Paul Westhead, since he didn't like his coaching approach and philosophies.

Not that I put a ton of stock in his opinion, but Tim Legler said the same thing on SC today, 'Antoni is not the right guy for these players.

Magic said some great stuff. However, Magic lost the ear and, in my opinion, the respect of many in Lakers lore because he always seems to be eager to dump on LA for the sake of ESPN.

Kobe does need to be a better leader or ,better yet, a different type of leader. Guys like MWP are going to go into battle with him and follow his lead. Nash will. Jordan Hill will. The other guys need help finding their role. If Kobe wants to win then he has to also, just like Mike D, be flexible with what he does and wants.

The only criticism I really didn't like was the MWP one because Ron has been playing great D all year plain and simple.

I only know of 3 guys that suggested otherwise and 2 of them have Buss as a last name.

I'm really not convinced 3 even thought it..... more like 1 or 2 that overrode the third and publicly called it unanimous.

I think a lot of people than used wishful thinking to wash down what they deep down inside knew was a huge risk with this roster and a hole lot of BS from our "unanimous" FO..

Lol what games have you been watching? World Peace has been horrendous on defense all season. He's slow as a turtle and can't keep anyone in front of him. Not even a shell of his former self. There's a reason he was moved to power forward although he still sucked on defense then.

Pretty simple the Lakers are a three man team.

Kobe has been great, Nash has been solid but hurt frequently, and Dwight is nowhere near 100 percent. Everyone else is either inconsistent (Meeks, Hill and World Peace) or just garbage.

oh really lmfao....... i think there are plenty of people questioning the coaching hire....right from day one actually.

but you keep telling yourself that if it supports your own warped sense of logic.

At some point MDA is just going to be the brunt of jokes around here as a blip on the radar in the past.... that day is not that far off nor can I wait for it.

Yup..... not a big fan of MDA and if that make's me a "hater" than watch my freak flag fly

What games has he been watching? Have you actually watched any Laker games this season yourself? MWP has been our most consistent and best defender after Dwight all season long. He's had some amazing games, some where he shut down certain players, some where he's gotten a bunch of steal with his hounding defense and effort, and has had many memorable defensive possessions, there's videos of those posted by cachooka and others all the time. Absolutely ridiculous statement here by you backed up by nothing, you've seemingly gone off the deep end regarding this team. MWP's offense has come and gone this season, but his defense has been there almost the entire time.
