Stephen A. says it's 50-50 Carmelo Anthony leaves New York next year and it's 50-50 he comes to the Lakers.

We're spoiled. No to James, no to Malo, no to Howard. I hope Irving/Rondo, LMA/Love are good enough? (cuz that's my pipe dream) :man9:

As far as Carmelo and D'Antoni not getting along, let's not act like D'Antoni's job is safe. There's a chance he's not back next year.

With Jim in the FO, you never know. I was 100% sure Mike's getting the boot and Dwight staying. Guess what...

Oh yay another Jim Buss blame post.

D'Antoni will not be here in 2014. His hiring has already been shown to be Dr. Buss's wish. We weren't going to fire him for the likes of Dwight Howard.

I'll bet a month of being on this site that this team will do what it takes to rebuild their image and that includes losing D'Antoni if that's what it takes.

Oh thanks kenzo. I'm on my phone its hard to figure out who I'm responding to. :man10: .

I think D'Antoni is gone but they didn't want to do that FOR Dwight. Dwight didn't earn that from the Lakers.

I think we have a decent chance in getting Carmelo next season, but a lot of it depends on how the Knicks do next year. For our sake let's hope they don't do so well. :man1:

LOL

Dirk is a top 20 player of all time and has one of the best skillsets in NBA history that makes it very easy to build around him

Melo is an inefficient ball hog that is only useful when his jump shot is on. He's nothing you want from your #1 option

Nevermind big shots, Melo isn't affraid to take any shots period :man10:

How would this Kobe/Melo duo work without a PG like Nash or Rondo? With those two guys combining for 40+ field goal attempts per game, they'd need a PG who can get the rest of the team involved enough to make it work, otherwise this whole thing would be a disaster.

The more I think about it... I seriously doubt Melo and/or LeBron are true Lakers targets. Those two aren't leaving their current teams, and I don't think Mitch is really even targeting them. The media (and some Lakers fans) are always focused on the big name stars when talking about the Lakers - great for the blogs and the headlines, but not realistic.

I think the Lakers are more focused on the next potential super star - someone like Paul George, maybe John Wall. Players that aren't yet in the same league as the super stars, playing for teams that they don't think they'll have success with - the Pacers are a really good team but I don't know that management make the moves needed to get them there... that, along with LA being his hometown, might give us a shot at Paul George when the time comes. Get a young talent to pair with Kobe in his final few years and he might be able to mold him. Keep Pau and Kobe together at greatly reduced rates and spend the money on a couple of talented players who aren't yet in their primes - I think that's the plan. Not Melo or LeBron.

"I would actually like to play with Melo," Kobe told Alex Kennedy of Hoopsworld back in 2011.

The Lakers were one of 'Melo's suitors back in 2011, when he was planning his escape from the Denver Nuggets. He wound up with the Knicks instead, where he is still equally as ring-less as he was then.

"I know I'm going to be here for a long time," Anthony said during his exit interview, according to Ian O'Connor of ESPN New York.

Forced to endure through another finish like the Knicks just had, perhaps 'Melo will be singing the same tune for the Lakers next summer.

I think Carmelo and Kobe respect each other as what they are primarily: scorers. It would work because they would understand each other.

But like others have said... it'd take a distributor of high order to make it smooth AND the right kind of role players around them.

I'm not BIG on this plan... but there's worse plans out there.

Yes, we are going to go after guys that will be RFA and will be getting max deals from their respective teams.

Melo or Lebron is the plan because if they opt out of their deals we can get them. We basically have no shot at Wall/George, unless we either overpay or they demand their way out.

I don't think LeBron will leave Miami, but I do think Melo would consider leaving NY because of what Stephen A said. The Knicks are what they are now, all their money is tied up for a while in Melo, Amare, and Chandler. And as they are now I agree with him, Miami, Chicago, Indiana, and Brooklyn are better than them. So I could see Melo coming to join Kobe as a possibility. I do agree with Doc that a guys like Wall and George are going to be really hard to get because they can get the most money to stay where they are.
