Mike D'Antoni Discussion: post in 7 seconds or less

I think we're all holding out for Nash, but Mike D'Antoni most of all. The man is really just desperate for Nash to return because when he does our offense is going to click on many cylinders and that'll boost the defense.

Outside of freeing the players from the bench, he hasn't done much coaching at all. I said in the optimistic thread, he's doing too much macromanaging for my taste. I want to see him give these guys a little more direction. Right now he's talking about it being a flow, like music. Well you got to give them the beat Mike.

I just don't understand the hiring of D'Antoni. He likes an up tempo style and we just don't have the legs or athletes to employ this type of style. We should've hired PJ.

I don't really see it that way.

D'Antoni is going to encourage it, I'm sure Nash is going to encourage it, and frankly the entire team outside of Kobe is going to encourage it. And a part of Kobe will too, the part that's tired right now and is sick of being a PG.

It'll be a transition, but the other guys will get the boost that they need. I never said it'd be smooth, but it'll be smoother than the crap we're watching now.

Trying to attribute our defensive problems to fastbreak points is hilarious. This team was total garbage in the half court on Sunday. We gave up 117 points and only a small percentage of those were transition points.

^^ Thanks John. And now that Duhon is playing so well, really it's just the one PG we need. The Hall of Fame one.

There is three coaches that I would fear heading into a playoff series with: Doc Rivers, Pop, and Thibodeau. That's it. Talent usually wins out as OKC proved last year when they beat the Spurs. Brooks isn't a better coach than Pop. However, he had the better team and they advanced to the Finals.

I say that to say this about our team when healthy; I still believe we have a championship roster and a coach with a proven system that can win. When the offense is properly installed and players are running it seamlessly and the team is playing adequate defense (hopefully), there is no team that I believe can match us.

As far as coaching goes, MDA will be good enough to get us to the promise land, IMO. I believe our talent will win out, though. We need an identity, though. We need to play defense with effort. We need to get healthy. All of these things we CAN fix. Here's to hoping it starts on this roadtrip...

Here's the thing.. our team right now is talented enough to win the games we've been losing right? Their team chemistry is so far down the toilet they need a plumber. BUT we all know that this team of:
Duhon/Morris
Bryant/Meeks
Artest/Ebanks
Jamison/
Howard/Hill

SHOULD win most of these games. Just for a second remember that our team SHOULD look like this:
Nash/Blake/Duhon/Morris
Bryant/Meeks
Artest/Ebanks
Gasol/Jamison
Howard/Hill

D'Antoni is not responsible for the amount of awful injury luck we've had so far this season and if/when we're healthy we're still by far the most talented team in the league. Things haven't clicked at all for us, but given this much talent we're going to turn it around. We just have to stay patient.

he shouldn't be laughing and smiling after this loss though imo

D'Antoni blamed it on slow pace offensively.

on what path... only THREE more wins than Brown.. I'm sure Brown woulda mustered up THREE somewhere

All this talk about uninspired play at this point leads me to conclude that this team doesn't want to play for Dantoni in the similar sense that they didn't want to play for Brown. Like many Lakers fans who were disappointed and misled into the thinking the Lakers were hiring Phil Jackson, maybe that's the case for the players. Hence, the uninspired play still on display. That's a hunch.

Maybe when Nash gets back things change completely for the better.

What a stupid hire. Of all the coaches available, we picked the one that doesn't coach or value defense. Phil, Sloan, hell I'd have taken a shot on Shaw.

LOL we have Dwight, Pau, Kobe and Metta all need some plays in the post, yet we all force them to play on a perimeter offense oriented system.

I was willing to give him a chance. I was banking on him hiring a defensive coordinator as he promised even before this hiring.

The guy is skating on thin ice. He's gonna get the Mike Brown treatment after this season if nothing changes.

Why did he go off on that reporter, and screw TWC for cutting out the interview when it was getting juicy.

Our defense sucks. I can't even blame it on coaching. The first half our defense was non-existent; in the third we picked it up; in the fourth obviously we had some mental lapses defensively that cost us the game. This roster for whatever reason just isn't getting it done.

Apparently it was Simers. He'd asked something earlier Mike didn't like. Then he was implying that D'Antoni didn't work on D, didn't make adjustments.
