Mike D'Antoni Discussion: RESIGNS AS LAKERS COACH (184)

Re: Mike D'Antoni Discussion: post in 7 seconds or less

Is it just me or are we not running nearly as much as in the beginning? We have pushed the ball, but we have slowed it down in the halfcourt. Or I could just be getting used to this style.

Our offense in the halfcourt is basically unstoppable when we run that Horns offense or the Nash/D12 pick and roll.

With Nash back, I expect us to run when he dictates it, which is ideal because with Nash at the controls we will never run out of control.

I'm fine with what D'Antoni is doing now, the only thing I would say he has to do is find a way to reduce minutes, especially Kobe.

Yeah Kobe is playing too many minutes. It's because he's not coming out in the 2nd half. Although, I believe Kobe is asking to stay in.

I'll give D'Antoni credit. He knows how to draw up an out of bounds play.

You think he'll play Jamison tomorrow? Back to back, altitude, Gasol could use some extra rest.. There could be some minutes for Antawn there, remember how well he played against Denver the first time around?

Mike D’Antoni improved to 230-83 (.735) as a head coach in games in which Nash played for his team, compared to 167-265 when Nash didn’t play (.387 winning percentage).
D'Antoni and Nash need each other. :man1:

Well.... Pinky (MDA) finally got his Brain (Nash) back.

IMO the Lakers playing better has very little to do with MDA and everything to do with Nash understanding how to run and dictate an offensive flow that is beneficial for what we have. His presence was sorely needed once Pinky was hired because Pinky gets lost very easily without Nash. Turnovers are down across the board leading to fewer transition situations...this teams cryptonite. They are getting touches for Gasol at the high post where his full skill set and decision making can be utilized....... but majority of what's going on is Nash reading, probing and attacking........... the guy does it like no other IMO, uses pace as his primary weapon rather than pure speed and recklessness...... he's just something else!

Do you have their playoffs records ? As we know that, regular season record for a run & gun team is completely rubbish.

D'Antoni has started trying now. You can be upset if you want that he didn't really give his full effort before, but I think Punk and I were right: he was waiting for Nash.

I think a lot of their success the last two games has to do with D'Antoni and with Nash's understanding of what D'Antoni wants to do.

Nash wasn't the only one at whom Howard pointed a finger, also calling for more emphasis to be placed on defense during D'Antoni's practices.

"Guys got to be in the right spots and they have to be taught it and it has to be something that you practice on so guys can understand," Howard said, visibly frustrated as he spoke. "They have to go through it. You just can't talk about defense or talk about where to go. You actually have to show guys where to go."

D12 is used to SVG's direct approach. If somebody screws up a rotation, SVG gets right into their face and sets them straight. D'Antoni obviously doesn't take that approach to defense.

Not sure if Antoni even has a defensive approach other than to funnel everything to D12.

I don't have a problem with that as long as the weakside help is there.

We also employ some doubling and occasional trapping in addition to funneling.

The problem is that we lack consistency on that end of the floor. That's usually a sign that habits are poor. That's usually the result of not enough repetition or focus in practice.

Apparently, they don't even practice defense. They just talk about where guys should go.

i think mda gets more critics than he deserves...he just got here and needs some time...
but wtf is with rotations...how come jamison already has 3-4 DNP...
we have old team...he needs to make bigger roataions or he will run our players in the ground...
plus jamison can contribute...
