Mike D'Antoni Discussion: RESIGNS AS LAKERS COACH (184)

Wait is the potential part still based on how he helps players develop?

That should be a B and offense should be a C.

It's strange to see D'Antoni outcoaching another NBA coach. That's exactly what he did tonight against McHale in the 4th quarter. McHale should have taken D12 out of the game as soon as the Lakers started fouling him.

He got stuck in the same quandary we had all of last year: do you take out your franchise player late or do you trust him?

We did the same thing. It's not an easy decision honestly. If you take him out and you lose it's "why did you leave him in?" If you leave him in and you lose it's "why did you leave him in?"

If you take him out and you win it's "why the f*** wasn't I in the game late?" Same if you lose actually.

Honestly, great strategy by MDA. Getting in Dwight's head a bit. He called timely timeouts tonight, and seems to be more vocal about defense. I still don't like him, I'm still skeptical, but I see a willingness to improve. Or I'm jaded enough to get myself through 2 more seasons of this.

Hill and Henry with 14, 16 minutes tonight. But I can't complain. We got the W.

Well I can't even blame him for that. Henry got hammered twice and no calls yet was getting touch calls on harden. He got treated like a rookie, so he couldn't be left out there. Hill was also dictated by the ref, as they called him for over the back when he was the one boxing Asik out. Dantoni played his hand according to what the refs were allowing, and funnily enought the refs let. Meeks play harden late unlike every other wing or guard

Extremely lucky that Parson inbounded the ball to him allowing us the chance to foul him under 2 minutes. Also, kudos that he didn't go [Swearing is not permitted at Clublakers. You must edit this post prior to submitting.] and get a technical foul from seeing all those personal fouls called on the Lakers.

Especially when we had FT's with 2:06 left on the clock, and he still left him in for us to foul.

Dwight got owned by MDA this time. On the court, and verbally after the game. :man10:

D'Antoni channeling some Zen Mastery there.

Funny.... but probably more true than we think.

It's a backwards relationship that breeds guys like Howard. It should be that IF he gets better at shooting free throws HE THEN gets to play at crucial points in the game. Instead, it's a constant "courting" process of trying to pacify the ego of the individual rather than incentivizing achievement.

While I don't think 'Antoni had a lot to do with last night's loss, I do agree with Flea's overall message.

@flea333: dear @Lakers i love you. The lakers will NEVER win a title with dantoni as coach. no great free agent will come with him as coach.

@flea333: i am sad dantoni is the coach of the @lakers please @lakers let us count our losses and move on. the franchise deserves better

This guy seems to get dumber each game. Still cant believe hes starting Blake at the 2. If he had any sense we should see a lineup like this

Blake
Young
Wes
Pau
Hill

Yes simple logic, I like the lineup, with Nash out finally Blake can play back at his natural PG position, he is not a SG. Play Nick Young, Xavier Henry and Meeks at the SG spot, they are not a SF, play Wesley Johnson at the SF, he is not a PF, play Gasol and Kaman as a center, they are not a PF, Hill as a C/PF and Williams a PF/SF.

I've coached high school basketball for over 20 years, boys and girls. Even teams that were not athletic and had very little basketball experience could learn defensive rotations, communicate, learn a team philosophy and at least challenge other teams. Our defense does not appear to have any more organization to it that a group of guys that got together at a rec yard or gym. They say they work on defense but it is not showing at all. After two days practice they should at least know the basic rotations the coaches want. These guys having been playing ball all their lives. Defensive principles with a few variations are pretty standard. There has to be more to it than MD just not being a good coach.

Makes me wonder how long before the crew tunes him out just like what happened to him in New York.

I don't think there has been a Lakers team that ever played defense. Even our championship teams weren't known for their defense, they just happened to play defense when it mattered the most.

Riles and Phil amazing runs make the majority of fans forget Lakers organization tracking record when it comes to picking coaches has mainly been bad besides those two

Has the coach finally figured it out?

Nash had to get re-injured for this to happen, which is too bad. But yeah, stick with this rotation man, you got this. Blake = PG. Hill = PF, everything else will come naturally. Farmar and X play hard, use them. Wes = SF. Stuff like that. :man12:
